The gun: Mossberg New Haven 600-AT 12-gauge
Mid-1970's manufacture, wood furniture.
30" full choke vent rib barrel.
Located in the bargain rack at the local gun emporeum.

Dry as old bones and full of fluff and dust bunnies in every nook and cranny. Hasn't been shot much but has been sitting a while, lots of dings and scratches and scuffs from improper handling and careless storage.

Price was quite reasonable for a Mossberg 500.

The previous owner has electro-penciled their social security number in the underside of the barrel and the action tube (can't see it without dismounting the barrel though). Also, after pulling off the buttpad and the decorative plate on the bottom of the wrist, there are initials and a Christmas present date and other info burned into the wood.

So, would you buy it?

There's a catch.
See that little red tag on the buttstock?

Here's a closeup:

Well, that explains why it has been out of action for 30 years and has been treated like it was thrown in a locker and only taken out to be dropped- IT WAS!

So, now would you buy it?

For the right price with the right purpose in mind. If it was a <$150 beater.... camp gun, crappy weather hunter, truck gun, bury-in-your-backyard for the pending gun grab, etc.... It will never be a safe queen.

The gun has more than one story, which makes it interesting to me. I'd buy it at the right price.

Hello friends and neighbors // Yes, $149.00 for a working 12ga. pump, with a 30" VR.

I'd do it.

I recently bought a minty, Monson, Dan Wesson, 15-2, with a TEN inch barrel, the State no longer needed. I sure am glad they don't destroy them here.

The only problem with State confiscated guns, I've had so far, is with the Semi-auto handguns. They never have mags.
Sometimes they have a case number etched into them but for an average $75.00 per gun who cares.

Nice snag/save BTW.
