I plan on purchasing a serbu shorty this year but I have some questions, my record has been expunged from 15 to 20 years ago. All my issues were misdemeanors from a real bad time with my sons mother violation of court order etc. and a shoplifting for taking a pack of smokes 21 years ago. All these have been taken care of and I have a copy of the order from the judge that states that for all purposes these arrests and charges are deemed to not have happened. There was one charge that NJ in all their infinite wisdom would not expunge- a charge for possesion of a pot pipe from 21 years ago that was changed to a disorderly persons offense in court. I have my florida ccw and the only issue I had was they wanted a copy of the court disposition from the disorderly charge. Should I even waste my time applying to get an nfa item. I'd also like to add nothing more than 1 speeding ticket in the last 15 years. Anyone with actual experience with this please share it. Thanks HDG

Your fine- as long as you're not a prohibited person, NFA Branch approves the application. The only trouble you may have is getting the CLEO sign-off if you apply as an individual. Some CLEOs don't sign for anybody, some have requirements, others will sign for everyone who asks.Of course, there is still vaious business entities (ie. trusts) that you can use if getting a CLEO signoff isn't doable.

Yea, I dont think you'll have a problem either. And as mentioned theres always the corp route.

I didn't think there would be any issue but most places that sell the nfa items charge a hefty return fee if the sale doesn,t go thru. Does anyone know for sure if the backround check differs from the florida ccw check. Also if NJ in all their infinite wisdom didn't destroy or erase the arrest, conviction records they were orderd to will the FBI honor the court order of expungement?

You'd probably need to contact ATF or FBI to get an answer on that, but nothing you've said sounds like a reason to disqualify you. I think the FBI check digs a little deeper but you should be good to go.
