Can I own a NFA gun or a silencer in MN and what would i have to do?

Thanks Brad

I found the following with a quick Google search:

In Minnesota you can own the following items that are regulated by the National Firearms Act

Machine Guns
Short Barreled Shotguns (SBS)
Short Barreled Rifles (SBR)
Any Other Weapon (AOW)
Some Destructive Devices (DD)

In Minnesota you cannot own the following NFA restricted items.

Silencers
Some Destructive Devices (DD)

MN bans civilian silencer ownership as well as any gun equipped to use a silencer. How they define "equipped" I do not know. The MN gov website listing their laws is down now, so I can not post a link.

Here's what the ATF says about it:

To be recognized as C&R items, 478.11 specifies that firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

a.Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas of such firearms;
b.Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and
c.Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.
Firearms automatically attain C&R status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm. It is not necessary for such firearms to be listed in ATF’s C&R list. Therefore, ATF does not generally list firearms in the C&R publication by virtue of their age. However, if you wish for a classification of your particular firearm under categories (b) or (c) above and wish your item to be listed, you may submit the weapon to the Firearms Technology Branch (FTB) for a formal classification.

Please note that firearms regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) may be classified as C&R items, but still may be subject to the provisions of the NFA. If your C&R item is an NFA firearm (e.g., Winchester Trappers) and you desire removal from the NFA status, you must submit it to FTB for evaluation and a formal classification

I was in MN a few months ago visiting family and I saw at the Cabelas, Scheels and GanderMountain some firearms capable of using silencers. Walther P22, H&K Tactical 45 and a couple other threaded barreled pistols ready for silencers. So the state better get on it and fine these stores. I'd love to move back to my home state but they say no to my cans. I dont think things will change either as most Minnesotans are Elmer Fudds who care only to hunt and not too concerned with rights. Most MN gun owners dont know MN is one of the few states along with CarlMarxifornia, Jersey, New York and Illinois that has no firearm protection rights listed in their state constitutions. Mention the word silencer to the typical midwesterner and they think you are an assassin or poacher of sort. They love their socialism from craddle to grave. I have to admit theres a foolish drunken comfort in letting big gubbermint take care of you growing up in MN. The question is.... can you resist and remain free?
