I'm in the process of changing addresses right now (the move is really complete, stuff-wise) and am interested in purchasing a suppressor. I have a trust.

1. Is it okay to fill out the form 4 with a driver license with the current address, and while waiting, change the address on the driver license? Can I use the PO Box for the trust on the form 4? I understand the address has to be updated with them at the given address on the form 4.

2. Or should I change the address on the license first, and then do the form 4?

3. Or should I do the form 4 with the new address, then change my ID during the 4 month wait, and when I pick it up it will be correct?

If 1. is a no-go or a big hassle, then I would prefer to do 3. as it would be much easier to get going and the least hassle. I'd do 2. only if required to by law. And considering it is a trust, does the address of the trust and my license address NEED to be the same? Or does the address of the trust just have to be the address of the location of the NFA item? I'm a little confused here. Please help!

So those in the know, what should I do? This is my first NFA purchase, I tried contacting the dealer but he's swamped and not taking calls right now.

You're doing it on a trust. It makes no difference what address is on your driver's license, because YOU are not the TRUST. The TRUST doesn't DRIVE. Use the address in the TRUST. (I would put the NEW address in the trust itself.)

Does that make sense?

I would use the NEW address in the TRUST, considering it's going to take 4-6 months to come back anyway. I don't know if you can use a PO box for an address on a form 4. I *think* it has to be the physical address where the items in your schedule A are kept. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Either way, it makes precious little difference because the Form 4 will go to your DEALER when it's approved anyway, and NOT to you.

So, if you decide to use your "current address" then go ahead and do so. Must make sure you file a 5320.20 after you get approved to let the ATF know the item has moved. I *believe* You'll also have to update your trust with the correct address and then submit a copy of the trust with your 5320.20.

Like I said, personally, I would use the NEW address on the trust and the form 4.

Okay, so new address on the form under the trust, which is where it will be kept anyway, so no extra papers to fill out. Thing is, in the trust, there is no address. The trust doesn't have an address itself.

I just thought that the address on the license had to match the address on the papers like it does for regular firearms when you picked it up. So with a trust or NFA item this isn't important, so long as the address where it will be stored is correct?

Okay, I just went ahead and ordered new forms with the address where the item will go when it is transferred on that day. No messiness.

This will be the first item, a suppressor. I tried to buy an S&H MkII over a decade ago, but got transferred out of state to another job position... Had to cancel it. Now I live in WA, and we just got suppressors, so after I get this SDN6 that will work on four different rifles that already have the mounts, I plan on getting an S&H integral MkIII. Can't speak for other pistols, but that thing is scary quiet, and you can clean 'em. Seamless construction, it looked like a bull barrel.

Interesting. I'm a remainder beneficiary on a couple of trusts, and both of them have addresses of the Trustees. If you don't have an address, I think it's STILL easier to use your new address.

Yeah, that is what I'm doing. I contacted the guy and requested the paperwork filled out that way.

I guess the lawyer leaves out the address because if we move we don't have to do anything? I don't know. I may call them tomorrow...
