NFL player shot by off-duty police officer

The video describes the officer as feeling trapped by Foley. Huh? :scrutiny:

I wonder if Foley or his passenger ever tried to call 911 during the incident? That would certainly help their case.

Enter the ACLU, right on cue.

Im just waiting for Al Sharpton. The Sign on San Diego article shed a bit more light but we still dont know everything that happened.

Sounds like the cop was a bit on a power trip... The cop is VERY lucky that Foley didn't have a gun or he'd probably be justified in killing the cop...

"Man pulls up next to me shouts something I don't understand while pointing a gun at me, Sorry your honor, I didn't know he was a cop, it seemed like I was being car jacked. so I fired in self defense."

There is a reason we give police officers marked cars and uniforms....

He is also very lucky that he did not hit the woman or that the NFL player did not get to him before he shot the player, I truely believe that he felt he was being carjacked or stalked and responded as such. Someone tries to shoot at my wife/GF and I can get a piece of him, I am pretty sure he is going to be needing bed rest for a long time.

Was listening to more on this tonight on a sports radio station and they are not at all fond of players who make scenes and even they say this sounds fishy as heck. I have been all over SD and I can not believe that there is any one place where it would take 20 minutes to scramble a squad on a busy hiway. Seems when I drive there, all I see are cop cars. talk jocks felt the same way, they all say, with plates and description of vehicle, the PD dispatcher would have immediately known this was a big name person and need to be handled with care.

They had a SDPD officer on the air who was not willing to give his name but whom they had established as legitimate, and he said off duty cop screwed the pooch big time. He said it fell out side of all parameters of how they are instructed to act and respond to situations. He claimed the officer was told that the cul de sac on which they were sitting was the address of the licensed owner of the vehicle, therefore removing the urgency of a stolen vehicle. That once the driver was going to pull into his listed address, there was absolutely no reason for the officer to leave his vehicle. That if the officer had indeed called it in, why are we not hearing the dispatch tapes? That protocol on such a case required a felony stop with two vehicles and four officers and that no such call was made. He claimed that the whole thing did not pass the smell test. He said someone is not telling the whole truth, and he said one story seems more plausible than the other, and he had already said what he thought. He said why are they now saying he was on radio when other statements from the cop at hte time said he called it in on his cell phone....

I would also posit that the female passenger who became the driver MAY have been justified in attempting to hit the officer with the car.
You've just been chased by a crazy man in the car and now he's starting to shoot at you and your date in a cul de sac.

But, overall; I think there was a whole lot of stupid going on.
It'd be good to know this CPD rookie's whereabouts in between leaving work and encountering weaving driver. Perchance did he visit a tavern himself?

Dispatch tapes could really be the key to this one.
