Both the Centerfire Rifle and Handgun ranges at the Club were rented out today and I felt like shooting, so packed up three rimfire rifles and a few handguns and went to Cap City Club for some solitary fun. As it happened, nobody was at the Rimfire range, so I set up to test rifles and ammo.
I brought three rifles: my accurized bull-barrelled 10-22, the highly modified 581 with a Lilja barrel, etc, and my bedded Rem 504. I had a couple of boxes of RWS R50, some CCI SV, and others.
The star today was the Rem 581, which turned in several 0.2"-0.3" groups! It has a very nice 1.5 lb. trigger. The 10-22 was shooting in the high 0.3's with the R50 ammo. (It likes Lapua better). The 504 was shooting in the 0.4"s. It has a pretty nice trigger.
It was hard to get comfortable on the new concrete benches. I didn't bring my heavy rest because I don't have a sporter/varmint top for it, despite trying to order one with bag, a couple of times.
Before leaving, I shot a few magazines worth out of my S&W M&P, 9mm offhand at 15 yards and kept the holes respectably close to center. Don't shoot that gun often and not as accurately as my S&W Mod. 19, but it's not a target pistol.
In all, a fun day at the range...cloudy and no wind, but a little mirage. I'm not going to show my messy BR target. (Hard to write on it when attached to the frame.)
