I'm fitting an EGW oversized firing pin stop to my Colt 1911. My question is, must the firing pin stop be absolutely flush where it mates with the bottom of the slide? The EGW stop protrudes just ever so slightly below the slide. The difference is maybe the thickness of a finger nail, if that. If I need to shorten it for better fitting, should I file the top of the stop down a bit, along with the radiused upper edges so it will fit a little further up into the slide? Thanks.

If you do remove any metal to make it fit flush, IMO it should be off the bottom. It is possible that taking it off the top would allow the part to be inserted high enough that the hole might not line up.

Does the FP line up with the hole in the stop? You may need to change the shape of the shoulders on the EGW stop to get it up far enough but not further up than the FP hole requires.

The firing pin stop hole lines up just fine. The firing pin drops in, and everything goes back together without a hitch. After looking at the situation further, I'd say that the stop hangs down less than 1/16", probably more like 1/32" or so. Like I said, I didn't know if this matters or if the FP stop must absolutely be flush with the slide bottom. I may file just a hair off the shoulders of the FP stop to see if it will scoot up just a smidge.

Thanks everyone for your input. :)
