Just when I got rid of the fever, you guys revived it ... y'all are killing me. Now I've got to get on the hunt again for some new (old) S&W magic ... If I find something and my wife makes me sleep on the couch, it's Iggy's (and the OP's) fault this time ...

Got it to replace my very first gun -- that I sold 35 years ago.
27-2 from about 1977-78

I know Smith makes many lovely revolvers & we all have our favorites of course.
Among my favorites are the model 27 / 25 / 29 / 19 so as you see I like the square butt N & K frame.
I don't like the looks of a round butt on anything & it has to be wood grips not pearl or synthetic or
the slinder square butt wood grips whatever they are called & in America that's why they make so
many options in so many things.
But that 27-2 of yours is my kind of gun & the older the better.
A short one: I bought one of those exact same revolvers for a relative in law enforcement back in
83 or 84 & as things often went back then, he traded it for a Charter Arms Bulldog 44 spl & to finalize
my protest he went out back with it to show me how good it was, it would get off about 3 or 4 shots
before it would have to be worked on. I guess he was playing with house money but still lost.

Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, any hobby or craft store.
And here I thought they were some fancy, shmancy, equipment that shooters bought at the LGS to display their guns. That was hard enough to believe, but that folks go to the trouble to make their own so they can impress the forum rats with their swell guns propped up all pretty, now that is amazing. Doesn't that take time away from reloading?

[Pulling your legs, folks. :)]

That's an outstanding find, you're very lucky there.

My gunsmith is holding a blue 1961 3.5-inch 27-2 in 90%+ condition for me while I scramble for the funding. :)
As an old ex-revolver-cop, it's a grail gun.
Classic, and that barrel is ideal.

I couldn't afford one when I started in the biz in 1976, envied the guys I worked with who carried 'em.

I bought a 6" 27-3 a little bit ago. I never had one. Now I understand why everyone loves them.

If I find a shorter barrelled 27 or 28, I'm going to be all over that.

Beautiful guns.
The service grips & Tyler T will be what I'll go with.
Hand-filling, but still old school without going custom.
