nickel unplating?

I recently had the nickel plating stripped from a revolver and had it reblued. The gunsmith used a stripping solution that he got from Brownells. It was the first time he had tried it and he said that it worked well. The finish on the gun, a S&W model 58, went from a poor renickel to a nice blue. I was pleased.

Thanks. You're right, I found the stuff on Brownell's site. (I'll bet it's pretty nasty stuff.)

nitric acid will strip the nickle off.soak it for a few hours or overnite depending on the strength of the acid.heat up the acid and it will decrease the time.
also..you can sometimes bead blast it off if it isnt too thick.
