This afternoon my five year old and I went to pick up a pizza we had alittle time before it was ready so we went into a pawn\gun shop Id never been in. They had alot of guns but most were over priced I did see a nickle plated colt 1911a1 it was a older one that had seen some use for around $450.00. I didn't look at it too closely because my son wanted his pizza, but I have been thinking about it all evening it would make a match for my 1980 nickle Browning Hi-Power.

While I do have a colt comander I am no 1911 expert and I have never bought a gun from a pawn shop so three Questions.

1. How much do pawn shops usally go down on their prices.
2. What is a fair price for the gun.
3. Is there anything I should Know about older colt 1911s.

Thanks

I have a 70 series, that I bought in the same condition. It booked at $350.00, but the plating is rough. Mine is a 70G sn, and it for sale now at the gun shop/range I go to.

One of my local stores has a Nib nickel colt commander priced at $699.00. I would try and haggle with the guy on the price. He might have gotten the pistol as a pawn and has very little money in it. :p

Bear in mind that if it is really a 1911A1 (military), the Army did not use nickel plated pistols. Lots of prettied up surplus guns out there though, and that depresses the value a good deal.

I believe you could get better responses if you could give more information. Its hard to give opinions when the description is "nickel plated older Colt" . Try to look more closely at it and remember the rollmarks on the left and right sides of slide. Right side of frame above the grips will verify if it is a Colt frame or not. What is the caliber? Is it satin or polished nickel? Is it USGI, series 70 , series 80.....
