I purchased a Rugar .380 and a phoenix .25acp and got approved on both of these sales. Then I went to borrow 120 bucks off the Rugar .380 and filled out a NICS sheet. I picked it up 4 days later and it was approved.

So here in December on the 14th I loaned it to the pawn shop again because I needed some extra christmas money. Well I go into to the pawn shop today on the 22nd and they tell me the NICS was approved on the 17th but then on the 18th they got a call back saying it was denied.

I wish I would have picked it up on the 17th when it was approved. I baffles me why it would be approved then denied like that.

I always been approved before and haven't been in any kind of trouble at all since the 14th. Shoot i've never been in trouble besides a MIC (minor in consumption when I was 20 but I got a diversion on it since I was my 1st time ever being in trouble) but i've purchased guns since then so I filed an appeal on the FBI - NICS appeals website.

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone on here before. I've never been denied before on purchasing firearms or getting them out of the pawn when I do a loan on a firearm. Im taking my CCH class on 1/11/15 in Kansas which is where I live. The gun range that is doing the CCH class had me fill out paperwork and said Im good to go to take the class and would have no issues getting the license.

So why deny me when I was approved just less than a month ago. I don't get it maybe my name is close to someone who has a bad record. I know I don't have a bad record. I work for ADT and own other guns also.

Any input would be helpful such as how long does the appeal take or whats the process of the appeal.

I makes me fustrated that I was denied on a pawn loan but was approved to purchase the two guns just a month before.

Yes, I provided my SSN. How do I obtain a PIN? I've never heard of a PIN before. I did submit an appeal with the NICS FBI website but I didn't mention anything about a PIN.

I read online on a forum that if someone has the same name as you and a SSN # thats close it could cause a denial. There is a kid in Wichita, Kansas that has the same 1st and last name as me but his middle name is different. I attempted to fight a traffic ticket back in 2009 and when I went in for court to fight it they had his paperwork under my name and when they told me I had charges for reckless endangerment and a list full of other bad traffic incidents I said no thats not me. They ended up getting my traffic information switched between us too.

I went on the Wichita, Kansas warrant search and sure enough that kid that has the same name as me has a warrant. I hope this is the issue that is causing the denial because i've never ever been in serious trouble before.

Oh BTW the form I filled out was the form 4473.

I was denied not long after i caught a misdemeanor case in 2007.
Since then i get delayed about 1/2 the time, but that might be due to my id once being altered and used to buy a pos .25 auto. (Cops wanted me to come pick that up, i said hell naw)

NICS can be funny at times. Appeals can take up to 45 days I believe. I have had to do it several times and mine have only taken about 2 weeks. Like a few of the guys have said, you might want to consider getting a UPIN. I had to get one because my name and date of birth is the same as someone that must spend a lot of time in jail. The most embarrassing part of getting denied is that I am a cop! Imagine standing in line with one of your colleagues and getting denied for something that we carry everyday! Since getting the UPIN I haven't had any problems.

Since you're new to this...

are you certain that it was a "denial" and not a hold or wait perhaps misinterpreted or misrepresented by the shop.

Did you fill out the 4473 form on December 17th? Your story doesn't add up for me unless there is a waiting period where you live?

While your post is somewhat confusing..

Im guessing its because your doing multiple 4473's with the 5 day "multiple gun" window.

That might have been it Tarosean. I loaned 2 guns then got them out of the pawn. Then 4 days later I re-loaned them. i guess that would make sense and look suspicious

Buying multiple handguns from the same FFL within 5 days is a paperwork issue for the FFL, not a deny flag for the buyer.
