Never played with night vision much. Tried a set of binocs that had the small TV screen in them but you had to hold them away from your eyes to see the screen and it really lit up your face. I don’t want to spend a lot and don’t need all the bells and whistles. Digital is fine, but, I want to be able to hold it close like a regular monocular so my face isn’t lit up. Light weight would be good so I can use it just to scan when I’m calling at night. Any experience out there?

I have this monocular with this illuminator mounted to the side. Can see out to 300+ yards pretty well. Would run you about $150 for both. The illuminator in the picture is actually the stock one off of my Wraith scope, but you get an idea of the setup.

They aren't high dollar items by any stretch, I more just bought them to screw around and see how they worked as a concept and I've been pleasantly surprised. The monocular was flickering a bit the last time I took it out, so need to see if that is a persistent issue or maybe it was just the lighting conditions.

Whatever monocular you get, I would recommend getting something with a pic rail or some other way of mounting an aftermarket illuminator to it, really makes it more useful. Also, make sure hownyou mount the light can be adjusted so you can get the beam centered in the field of view.

Intensifiers let you see like there was more light than there is. Thermal, let’s you see things you might not even be able to see if it were daytime. Like that completely still animal mostly obscured by vegetation.
