Okay. Because I'm bored, I'm going to talk about the guns I wish specific gun companies would make. Feel free to read or disregard at your discretion.
Colt: I wish Colt, the handgun company, would just get back in the game. You know, be taken over by someone who wants to make and sell guns, and for them to start marketing again. If I were Colt, our company theme would be "modern classics". The stock Government Model would be, essentially, a NRM series 80, available in a matte black polycoat finish or in stainless. Standard hammer, standard safety, basic 3-dot sights, arched mainspring housing (flat available instead at no extra charge). Just done right. Simple, reliable. Gov't Model Enhanced would have better sights, night sights, and an ambi safety. XSE models would have the beavertail, extended safety, all the bells and whistles popular today. NO models would have front cocking serrations. Make a modernized model 1903 in 9mm, and bring back the Magnum Carry and Anaconda revolvers as standard items. Python and SAA would be hand-built, hand-fitted, custom only deals, only a few hundred made a year. (Improve QC and customer service along with marketing...)
Smith & Wesson: Unlike a lot of people, I think S&W's lineup is pretty good. The only major thing I'd do would be to introduce the "S&W Classic" series revolvers. These would be the K-Frames, mainly, but also J and N frames. Pinned and recessed, no lock, nice blued finishes. They'd have a lot more attention put into them than the regular models, and a lot fewer would be made. Flagship of this line would be, of course, the Model 19, followed closely by the Model 29. Others would come later. Custom house bright blued finish available for extra cost.
Beretta: I'd like to see Beretta get back into the LE game. Their new PX4 is their shot at this market, and I'd run with it. But I'd go in a different direction with the model 92 as well. First of all, I'd standardize the magazines for the Model 92 and the PX4 9mm, if they haven't already, at 18 rounds. The new Model 92 would have a frame mounted safety, and two models would be available. One model would offer cocked & locked carry, and if you wanted a double-action first shot you'd have to manually lower the hammer, ala CZ-75. The other model would have a frame-mounted decocking lever, like the FNP pistols do. Both models would have great sights, night sights available, and a rail for lights. The backstraps could be removed with a screw and replaced with different sized ones. (I think you could pull that off...)
Magnum Research: Magnum Research? Yeah, why not? How about a Desert Eagle Mk. XXI? Modify the design for a frame-mounted safety, similar to a 1911. Use modern metallurgy and design techniques to reduce the grip circumference and lower the overall weight. And just for fun, make one verison available with an optics rail. .44 Mag, .45AE, and .45 Win Mag cartridges.
FN/Browning: I'd like to see these guys do something new with the Hi-Power line. How about a custom shop, where you could have your gun customized? How about a stainless Hi-Power? Or a Hi-Power with a light rail?
Tired now...more later.
