Anyone remember these nifty night stand alarm clocks that had a key pad on top to open the top of the clock up to hide a hand gun in? I'm needing to locate one for my parents to keep their prescription drugs in that keep dissappearing. I seem to be having "family" problems that necessitate the use of a safe hiding place that won't be obvious that it is a "stash box" until we get the problem taken care of.
I did a Google search and came up empty handed.

Professional burglars know alllll about all those hiding places. They dump books from shelves listening for the impact sound, and they pick up and throw clock radios and other small things. If it's widely sold, they'll also recognize it.

You'd be better off getting a steel lockbox and bolting it into a drawer.

I guess you missed the part where I said:
"I seem to be having "family" problems that necessitate the use of a safe hiding place that won't be obvious that it is a "stash box" until we get the problem taken care of."

This person is not a professional thief. Just a family member that won't push the smash and grab tactics, just sneaking out pills when no one is home.

I always hated people who steal other peoples pain medication. Used to see a fair amount of it before I retired from a state agency. A night stand bolt-on box would be great for this and for a child safe. Burglars would no doubt just rip the thing ring out of your furniture.
A police anti crime officer thought it was real cute to tell us that a great hiding place where burglars never look is a jumbo box of sanitary napkins. I suppose that now that theyve brought it up, the burglers are emptying those out too.

How about putting a good lock on a closet door, then storing the drugs in there? Since they aren't the smash and grab type, might just be enough of a deterrent.

Then again, you could also get a lock box and store it in a locked closet for redundancy.

Good luck - sounds like a not so fun situation.

Take care,

What ever it is, it has to be a combination lock. Parents seem to always keep a spare key somewhere that this individual keeps finding while they are not home. They currently have a lock box, but individual got ahold of the spare key and we don't know if he had a copy made or not.

I just did a good bit of searching, and I couldn't find anything. My Google-Fu is usually pretty strong.
I would like to have something like this that can hold a pistol.

I bought the Gamma III on Gunbroker.com many years ago. I have not seen them available for years though. It has a 9V battery to hold it up during a power outage, but also has keys in case the battery dies and power goes out which would cause the combination to be lost. The radio and alarm really work too. I keep a Dan Wesson 44mag with 6" barrel in mine. That is about the largest gun that will fit in it. I have most guns in a less accessable gun safe. I know the Gamma III could be easily taken, but count on the 3 dogs to make that an unpleasant experience for anyone entering the house without permission. If company is going to visit with small children, it is the most accessable gun unless I am wearing my CCW gun.
