I am looking at Nikon scopes like the M308 or M 223. It comes with a one piece mount. I know what they are as I have a Burris scope with a one piece mount.

Please help me understand this:

What does it mean by 20 MOA slope (I know MOA) but how does that apply to a mount? Why a slope on a flattop? Is it to clear the front iron sight if the rifle has one? (mine are flip up) Ar10 or AR15

Thanks

It is intended for shooting at long ranges, where your scope would run out of elevation adjustment. When you fire a bullet, it begins falling as soon as it leaves the muzzle. To get more range, you angle the barrel just slightly upward. That's why for several cartridges, a 25 yard zero is the same as a 200-250ish zero... the bullet rises into your line of sight at 25 yards, and begins falling back down at 250ish. So, if you want your shot to be coming back down to zero at 350 yards, you need to adjust your elevation so that your barrel is now angled more upward. With most scopes, you can run out of internal elevation adjustments once you start pushing the range out, so having a base that elevates the rear of the scope saves you a lot of internal adjustments. Whether or not you need one will depend on how far you're going to shoot, and what scope your using.

The 20 moa mount won't do you any good at 100 or 200 yards, and might cause problems.
Nikon lists the elevation adjustment on that scope as 40 moa. You could use up all your down adjustment to zero at 100.

Your scope has 40 MOA. Let's say you zero your scope at 200 yards and it is in the middle of it's adjustment range=20 MOA. To get to 300 yards you need around 3 MOA. To get to 600 yards you need another 11 MOA. That puts you at 33 MOA. That does not leave much adjustment left. You don"t want to bottom or top out your adjustments. If you get the 20MOA mount you have plenty of MOA to play with. Go for it. Good scope for the money.

I am confused now. Two different explanations.

My range has a 50 and 100 yard range. I can go to another that the max is 200.

99% would be at the 100 yd range. So will this mount work for that?

What Haxby said is true. You could run out of down adjustment with a 20 MOA mount. Get a set of Warne quick release medium height steel rings.

OK, thanks for the help. I like Warne rings, have them on another rifle. Steel and made here.

This is for a flat top AR? You need AR-height rings, or a 1-piece AR mount.

Yes, for a AR10 (308 Win) It has ARMS rear and front sights. Both fold down.

So is the Nikkon package I am looking at for a bolt action rifle? The video shows them using a regular hunting or target type bolt action. Heck no way I am shooting over 200 yards anyway;)
