I've got a Howa 1500 Ranchland in .223 coming and I need a scope for it.I have a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X40 on a remington 700 and it's a pretty good scope.So I'm considering another Nikon or a Weaver Classic V9 3-9X38.
Does anyone have one of these Nikons and a Weaver V9 3-9X38 and if so how do they compare?

Either are going to be very close to one another and for me it would come down between which one had the best eye relief first and second would be the lightest weight.
I own a Nikon Monarch UCC in 3x9x40 and have used a Buckmaster 3x9x40 and I thought the Buckmaster had very good clarity but was just a notch under the Monarch.
Although I have not used the 3x9 Weaver I did get a chance to use a rifle shortly with the Weaver 2x7 and thought it was pretty good but not up to my 2x7 Monarch in clarity.

While I don't own those two specific scopes, I have a couple that are so close they're almost twins to those you're looking at:

Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40 on a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06

Weaver Classic V 2-10X38 on a Winchester Model 70 in .243

In my experience, they're too close to call in terms of optical performance, which is very good in both cases.

I have a very slight preference for the Weaver, simply because it's a tiny bit more compact. If I were looking to get a similar scope and was choosing between the two you've mentioned, it would just come down to which is available at a better price. I think you'd be pleased with either.

I'm leaning toward the Weaver. It is a bit lighter and more compact. The specs on the scopes give almost identical eye relief and it looks like I can get the Weaver a little cheaper too.
Thanks for the replies.

I personally have a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40SF on my old Remington 700 30-06 and it's a great scope for the money. I have to tell you though that the newer Weaver scopes are a real bargain as well and exeptional quality. Now tha ATK owns Weaver, they're agressively coming out with better stuff all the time!

Yes,I think I will go with the Weaver V9 Classic I have liked all that I have found out about them and have seen a couple of pretty good deals on them too.
Thanks for the replies.

For the same money as the Weaver Classic, you could get the Nitrex TR1 at Natchez Shooters Supply. According to reports, it's the same scope as the Weaver Grand Slam.

I have a 3-9 Weaver and a 3-10 Nitrex. Nitrex is a really nice scope.
