My .30-06 Savage came with a cheapo Simmons 3-9x40, and I'm wanting to upgrade to something better.

Can anybody enlighten me as to the real world differences between these scopes? I'm looking for a camo scope to match my rifle, so the Nikon Prostaff and Buckmasters 3-9x40 examples seem to fit that criteria.

The ProStaff seems to get rave reviews both here on THR, and in the customer reviews on Cabelas' website. The Buckmasters model doesnt seem to get talked about as much, and I'm very interested in hearing more about it.

The price difference is not a major consideration, although I would not object to saving a few dollars.

Thanks! :D

The Buckmaster is a higher level scope to the entry level prostaff. But you could get a 4-12 Vortex Diamondback for less than the Buckmaster 3-9.

I have Nikon Monarchs and Buckmasters, but not Prostaff, so I can't compared, but Buckmaster scopes are quality made, and will last for years of good service. I would spend extra few bucks for buckmasters, or even Monarchs for that matter. Expensive part of shooting is the disposable stuff (ammo)...spend money on things that you'll keep.

I am absolutely satisfied with my Nikon Buckmaster scope. Very well made, and it gets the job done.

I have a handful of Buckmasters BDC. Love all of them. Hard to beat for the money in my opinion.

I have a pro staff that I've had on my Omega for a few years shooting 100 to 150 grains of powder. It's never lost zero or clarity. I'd have to compare the clarity with my leupold varXII. I actually like my nikon better.

I have a 4-14 Buckmaster on my .243 and I have no complaints at all with it.

There are numerous groundhogs that might say differently if they could actually talk and were still alive.

Both my sons and I have Pro-Staffs on our '06s. Have worked well from the day they were mounted. Oldest also has one on his .460 S&W TC Pro Hunter. I consider them excellent scopes for the money and all the quality needed for the average deer rifle. Reviews I read before deciding on the Pro-Staff claimed the difference between it and the Buckmaster model were negligible. Also read that most of the extra cost goes for Jackie Bushman's royalty........and since he makes me gag,:barf: the choice for me anyways, was simple.

I have a Buckmasters on my Savage 30-06. I liked it so I bought one for my grandfathers 300win mag. Both have great eye relief and are good in low light conditions. When I was hunting it was almost dark but when I looked through the scope I could still see.
