I'm considering upgrading the scope on my 10/22, and this scope has everything I want, the only thing I'm unsure of is the reticle. I would prefer the Nikoplex reticle, but unfortunately I don't see it offered. Could somebody explain this reticle a little better to me? Is the intent to zero with the cross hair intersection at 25 yds, and then the use the the lower circles for distances of 50, 75, 100, and 150?

Most of my shooting with this rifle is at distances 75 yards and closer, and I just can't decide if the "busy looking" BDC reticle is a good choice.

I had the nikon prostaff with BDC on a .308win. Very good optic for the price. The circles are meant to surround the vitals at 200, 300, 400 yds etc. but I never really liked that approach. I got onto Nikon's Spot-On website and it gave me the applicable ranges for wherever the top and bottom of the circles cross the vertical hair. I liked this way much better. Don't know if the website will do the same for the rimfire BDC, but you should check it out

I too, have the BDC on a .308 and I love it.

The rimfire model is at the top of my wishlist. Great glass, useful reticle, affordable price, whats not to like?

The main benefit to owning a prostaff with BDC ( i have two of them) is that if you zero to 100 yards at the cross, you can use nikons' proprietary ballistics generator to input your cartridge info, and receive "precise" yardage info for the 3 reticles.

Nikon P-22 Scope

Capt., Check out the new P-22 Scope. It would be a great pairing for your 10/22. I plan on adding one to my 10/22 as soon as I can find one. There is a big Promo. going on right now that includes the P-22 Series Scopes. There is also a Rockin' Rimfire Promo. going on that might prove helpful to you.
Check the scopes out at Nikonhunting.com

I love my Nikon. They are a leader in the photo/optics industry for decades. They know what they are doing. Their rifle scopes are priced great, but their dslr lenses can go as high as a price of a good car.

I prefer a 3-9x40, which is why this particular scope is appealing to me, it's just the reticle which I don't want. What's the point of the return to zero turrets and BDC reticle? I thought the whole point of BDC was so that you don't have to mess with adjusting the turrets for varying ranges.

Think of it this way... if you don't use the BDC circles and just the hair crossing it would be the same thing as shooting with a Nikoplex. There's no downside.

The return to zero is just an added feature so that when you are at the range and sighting in you know where you started. Also, just in case you want to dial-a-distance you have the ability to return to zero. Hardly anyone I talk to who uses the BDC reticle turns knobs for distance, but at least it's nice to know that if you wanted to you could.
