Is the nitron finish durable from Holster and use wear? I don't understand why put it on a stainless slide. I wonder how good is the finish from holster wear.

Can anybody elaborate why they put Nitron finish on it?

thanks,

It's supposed to be more durable , that's why they use it. I wish they would explain exactly what these special finishes are rather than just use the trade name. From the name I assume there is nitrogen added to the surface , probably a diffusion coating like carburizing.

Yeah, I think it's a durability issue. I think their exact description of nitron was that it is "rock hard."

We use a gas-nitride finish on certain high stress gears for break-in. Works great in my torture testing of a less than optimal set-up. It seems to help with the burnishing or polishing of the drive surfaces such that as it wears off, the two surfaces mate very smoothly (and go on to wear well for many hours).
