Well, more than 15 years after moving from good old Indiana, I have a permit again. Under the new NM law, the state chotas have 30 days after submission of the application to get your license issued.

I mailed my completed app. on Tues. the 13th of Jan.
They rec'd it (return receipt!) on Weds. the 14th.
They issued my permit on Sat. (?) the 7th of Feb.
I received it Weds. the 11th of Feb.

28 days from their receipt of the app to my receipt of the permit.

Not bad for Occupied Mexico! :D

Gosh, now I can carry a concealed weapon again! ;)

SMLE,

As soon as you get yours, let's go have a meal like civilized human beings (which is to say, safely and legally armed). Village Inn has a lo-carb menu now that's good for me!

cheers, erich

I haven`t been keeping up. So it`s final, good. When I retired N.M. was an option but the lack of CCW was one reason I didn`t bother.

The funny thing was even off duty cops couldn`t carry although anyone could have a gun in the car.

Gosh, Tejon, it feels like I never stopped . . .

Looking forward the most to using my new CHL when I come back home to Indiana for a visit. Now I can finally check out your Wildcat Creek setup, Tejon! :) The problem is going to be deciding which guns to bring . . . .

Getting one says that I need a licence to carry, which under the 2nd ammendment, I can carry anyways.
I can get mine though, but just dont feel right......

Good news, now get the age limit lowered from 25 to 21 so other state holders can carry in NM also. I spend 5 months every summer in your great state but have to carry the magazine in another pocket with an empty carry gun. Packing.org says that is why other states will not recognize the nm permit. mushoot

Actually Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and of course Alaska and Vermont DO honor the NM permit. And New Hampshire will give me a 4 year non-resident permit for $20.00 if I fill out a one page form and send them a photo copy of my NM permit. It's not full reciprocity, but it's good news anyhow. It will be BETTER news when NM honors everybody else's permits.

The list above is from Packing.org.

when will NM recognize a Texas CHL?
With any luck, sometime shortly after the 2005 Legislative session. We need to start bugging our Legiscritters about makeing a few useful amendments to the law.

Personally, I think that "full faith and credence" thing that applies to DLs ought to apply to CHLs.

Thanks again, I was just over on packing.org and read this:

PLEASE NOTE:!
New Mexico DOES NOT OFFER RECIPROCITY.
NM can not offer reciprocity until we get the minimum age in line with the states we offer it to. NM's minimum age is 25. Our constitution prohibits ANY exemption to any state law.

We are working to lower that age minimum. Nothing can be done until the long session in 2005.

NM DPS has begun issuing licenses, as of 01/14/2004.

Other efforts to support and improve our law are on-going.

Carry in State Parks prohibited.

That is why I was confused. John
