No love for FN?

FN has been the preeminent supplier of small arms to the free world for decades.

Does not mean it's particularly good.

I had the displeasure of using M249, which I still have a suspicion that some pshyco at FN designed for the purpose of punishing soldiers.

Their prices are all over the place. They came out with the FN line at about $600, and the 45cal was $1000.00, then they dropped into the 4's and back up to 5 again. If you shop the striker fired one " I literally can't keep track anymore of all the names", you can get a price that varies $200.00, from site to site.
I also almost bought one several times, only to see prices drop again. Wjat they are really worth is more the question for me, and the reviews also go from great to not so great. It doesn't seem like anyone is really behind them, PR wise. I think Nuthin Fancy liked the guns, but can't remember if he liked the hammer or striker model.
Dog, you got a hell of a deal on that 45.

Had a FNX40. Was a pretty good firearm. It didn't have any of the known issues that the early FNXs had however in my consolidation of calibers it was traded in. I did have some qualms with CS though. In the end my issue was taken care of but communication was very poor.

I have a FNS9 on layaway right now and I'm sure I'll had a FNX9 in the future. For the money (with the recent $100 drop) the FNS is a stellar value.

I had an FNP-45. Had to replace all the mag springs after a year. It was never 100% reliable for me. It was an older one though. I hear the FNX-45's are pretty good. It also didn't fit my hand quite right.

Switched to an HK45 and now I'm happier.

There's a major problem with the FNX for military or police use. To detail strip the gun, you have to remove the safety lever, and it's designed to be installed only once.

Other issues:
The left-handed side of the safety lever does not stand up to hard use. Lefties have broken the lever under normal use. Also, this one is just my opinion: I feel like the mag release buttons are too big and release the mag with too little movement.

I love my FNX. It's been 100% reliable and very accurate. But if I were going to decide on a gun to supply dozens/hundreds of folks, I could probably find something better.

I feel like the mag release buttons are too big

That was a major problem for me. It wasn't that I was dropping the magazine by accident, but the tip of my trigger finger would get smacked with every shot. I have large hands, but skinny fingers that require me to have a lot of finger on the trigger to have any kind of decent trigger control.

I like the paddle style mag release on my HK.

I have two FN pistols, and have CCW'd one with no problems. I love 'em.

What? Someone had to do it.:D

Ya, their plastic pistols change every couple of years, while the Hi-Power hasn't changed since the 1980's.

It's a whole lot easier finding magazines and holsters for an FN Hi-Power than for the FNP/FNX/FNS/FNG.
