No more gun shows for me

Good question. But the answer is highly personal.

How much is an hour/two hours/half day of entertainment for you?

Do you have a specific purpose in going to a gun show beyond the browsing entertainment?

These days, I mostly go to gun shows for the entertainment value. I don't have to buy anything. It's also a great place to go to find/handle that next potential purchase to get a feel for how it handles and whatnot before committing several hundred on buying something else that would otherwise be sight-unseen.
The only reason we is to people watch and occasionally fondle a firearm i’ve been eyeing and buy it online.

I think the next time they have a gun show in Colorado Springs I'm going to go just to see what it cost to get in. But I ain't paying over 10 bucks

Checking Premier's page, the Mesquite (TX) show is going to US$12; but the Fort Worth show is still $10 (parking over by all the museums has gone from $10 to $12, though.
Dallas Arms & Knife will be returning to Southfork Ranch, out in Parker, and will be $10 still (probably not worth the 50 mile drive to me).
Texas Guns Shows will return to the Gaylord Resort in Grapevine, for $20 (which reflects how much they want for rent at the Gaylord).
The Frisco Gun Show will be in the Frisco Conference Center, and the rental cost is reflected in the admission--$20
Premiere is not having an Allen show until August, at the Event Center, and it's $12, up a couple of bucks.
So, not many hits from inflation or venue rent rate changes.

Honestly, AR-15s ruined gun shows. Nobody is walking around selling anymore, where you would get the best deals, usually people are only interested in buying from tables (dealers). If they are selling, it is typically their "built" AR-15 that they want way too much for.

The Gun Collectors Association gun show I went to last year was pretty good, but if I sold my guns for the prices those guys are asking, I could retire early. I couldn't believe the prices they had on average guns.

Ours are still $10. I wouldn't go if it went to $20.
Me neither!
Nobody is walking around selling anymore
The last 4 shows I've gone to were simply for that reason, to sell things I no longer wanted. I don't typically go to look at what's on the tables because that stuff is usually out of my price range, but at $20 admission, I'd have to price mine similarly.

In cases where I was looking for something specific, I avoid the tables full of new guns because it won't be there anyway. The occasional private collector downsizing can have reasonable prices, if they're motivated sellers.

Today's $20 is yesterday's $10

Gun shows don't entertain me the way they used to.
Oh how much fun they used to be when I was a kid, I looked forward to returning when I was of buying age but by then they had nosedived and I can only recall one good one when I was of age and showed up with like $1500 cold hard cash and wasn't leaving without a deal. I ended up with a SS walnut Ruger Mini 30 with 200rds of 7.62 and 3-5rd, 3-20rd and 2-30rd magazines for $450 cash. That was my first, last and only gun show conquest worth talking about, circa 2006.

Ever since then, the prices and selection and number of private sellers have been disappointing. Started to become an atmosphere of top dollar seeking and wary sellers, I'd gotten the impression that anybody seeking private sale were looked upon as being shady.... I suppose anyone prohibited from owning firearms would try to conduct a private transaction but that's not always the case and it's easy enough for a criminal to get a straw purchaser. I feel like asking for a Cash/handshake deal would get you the stink eye.
over the years (over 50) i have made alot of friends who set up at shows and they will give me a pass for a little help setting up. so i get in earlier then the public and have gotten some real buys because of it.
I admire the hustle. It's both admirable and irritating 😆. You get to a gun show and just assume that all the good deals are gone, almost certain to be the case when the "helper" shows up and snakes em all before the doors open to the public. But, if I'm honest I would do the same thing.

I haven't enjoyed gun shows for close to two decades and the high admission prices don't help. The only times I will go is if my favorite knife dealer is there and I either want to visit with him, see what's new and awesome, or both.

I went to our local show about 2 months ago. It's in a smaller building and there aren't as many dealers anymore.
I go to sell things I don't want anymore. The local shops tend to really low ball you on trade ins. I can sell at the show and get a better price on a Saturday morning, then go to a shop in the afternoon and buy what I want. Even though it's a small show I did see some decent deals on some older pistols. Lots of mags that I can't find at any local shops too.
If prices go up I think it will negatively impact the shows. Are they raising the rates on the tables too? That will affect the dealers and raise gun prices at the show.

I just looked up RK gun shows in this area. Adult ticket prices are going up to $14,50.

The Allen show was the last one I went to about 5 years ago

I would spend $20 if I thought it would be fun or interesting and it fit my schedule. 20 bucks is nothing by 2024 standards but I do assess value. Is the show going to be worth my time and money?

Premier & Hi Caliber shows come around here, very frequently. I go when they use the Pasadena Convention Center. Tickets went from $8 up to $10 a few years ago. I get a veteran discount and pay $9. It’s about 5 minutes from my house and free parking.

Ironically, our gun shows prohibit open or concealed carry. True purveyors of the 2nd Amendment.
Cause and effect. Go to enough shows and you'll eventually hear someone set off a round unintentionally. The venue and the organizer have less liability exposure if the show is posted and someone carries in anyway and can't keep it in their pants.

This^^^^^^^^ if I want jerky Ill make my own.Kettle corn can be had at the county fair.Dont remember buying anything at local gunshow, except meeting my powder supplier because he was going anyway and cut my trip to see him in half.

2012 was the last time I went; having to move through isles at sloth pace became unfun.

The only gun show I’m interested in anymore is the annual Colorado gun collector’s show, absolutely no Tupperware & tons of the most beautiful wood matched with blue steel. Lots of great exhibits & collections on display, no jerky, jewelry, or anything modern. There’s a cut of date for year of manufacture on firearm displayed but I’m not sure what it is & these are what interest me, I get no joy from looking at tables covered with pink & purple plastic weapons & with the new 3day wait law I don’t know how the other shows can survive much longer.
