I just picked up the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. It says that S&W are engineering their new autoloaders so that they don't accept "pre-ban" "high capacity" magazines. Is this true, and if so is it new? I've never heard this before.

I fail to see the importance

It is a dumb business move sure but who would spend money on a S&W high cap auto pistol anyways. Sure I would buy a single stack from em cause they are so small but If I was going high cap they are about the last ones on my list. Lot's of better choices out there in that group.

Hell I don't even have a HP yet. I do have a high cap 686 though! ;)

Ok, I did give them a second chance

and bought my 686. If they go off and make me hate them again then this time it is permanent. My dear old dad told me many times that three strikes are for baseball. He says if someone screws you twice they are showing a pattern. So don't let anyone screw you three times in a row.

I don't really care for the high cap autos but I wonder why they would make this move. :fire: the richards!

I for one am glad everyone took the time to find out if there is any truth to this before reacting. I mean, after all, he read it in a book published several years ago. Perhaps someone should check?

The importance is that if they are willing to adhere to this part of "The Agreement" then they will probably adhere to all of it eventualy.

If you think just because you don't own (or plan on owning) a S&W that "The Agreement" doesn't have an effect on you, you should read it.

I believe Mike Irwin has (had?) a web site up explaining the while thing.

At any rate, I agree we should wait to see if this is true or not.

Can anyone please post a link to the details of "The Agreement" ?
Or any other info on this topic?

hey don't get upset at me cuz

you took my bait. MMMM hows that hook taste?

Don't mind me I'm just stirring the pot a bit. It seems like it's been a while since i've seen any half baked gods honest go tell it on the mountain internet truth so I though I would join in and make things worse!

Yippie for me! :D

LOL! What would we all do if Smith tanks and we can't bash em anymore?

First: Supica and Nahas (Authors of SCOSW) DO NOT work for Smith and Wesson. The book itself is NOT a product of Smith and Wesson. The info maybe good gouge, but the authors don't go in the board meetings.

Second: The 2nd Ed of the book dates back to 2001. You think that if Smith intends to do this, it would've happened already given their tendency to rush things to market?

Ruger's a sellout, Colt's a sellout, Taurus is a sellout, nobody's clean.

Is this true...?

No.

Amazing to see the fact that everybody launched into tirade-'n'-grandstand mode without doing an iota of fact-checking.

This is how stupid internet rumors like the one about Colt "no longer selling to the public" get started. Double

Hey, did y'all know that Kimber is going to move all their production to a Communist slave labor facility in China?

(Just trying my hand at Unverified Internet Rumormongering.)

Ceestand, you say that you read this in a Smith and Wesson Standard catalog?

A total falsehood, Kimber is continuing their production in Malaysia like they alwys have.

Bah.

FN/Browning is VERY clean. Winchester is clean. Kahr is clean.

They make my favorite guns anyways....

Screw Smith & Sellout if this is true. I didn't want one of their MIM Scandium P.O.S. revolvers anyways...

Ok, yea I did a little.

FN/Browning is VERY clean. Winchester is clean. Kahr is clean

None of the three make revolvers. Winchester doesn't make handguns of any kind. Besides, if you ask around, you can find reasons to boycott them as well. We all know of the Kahr/Moonie nonsense...

They make my favorite guns anyways....

So it's easy to walk away from everyone else that isn't squeaky clean. Whutcha gonna do when Kahr, Browning, and Winchester start playing games like Ruger, Taurus, and S&W (and who says they haven't done so, but kept their traps shut?)?

It's real easy for me to walk away from S&W, Ruger, and Taurus too. I don't like most of their new products and few of their older ones. I can boycott all three without breaking a sweat. :neener:

LawDog,

Ceestand, you say that you read this in a Smith and Wesson Standard catalog?

He read it in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, Second Edition by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas, a book that is in no way authorized, published or endorsed by Smith & Wesson, and is (to boot) two years old by copyright date, and therefore probably three years old as far as when the copy was actually written. IE, Supica & Nahas had probably just gotten their hands on a copy of THE AGREEMENT (uttered in a sort of Vincent Price tonality) when the actual text in question was written... ;)

Come to think of it, Winchester doesn't make guns at all!... Egad, neither does Browning!

Let me be more precise. The company that uses Winchester's name doesn't make handguns.
