No shooting tomorrow, I guess... But it's a White Christmas...

Well, I had wanted to go to the range in the county where my parents live. Nice place. Cheap, and lots of different ranges to try out.

Well, at the moment we have 6" on the ground, and at least another 6" coming. It's snowing like crazy right now, and has been for a couple of hours.

This is the first time we've had snow on Christmas Day in central Pennsylvania for a long time.

It's pretty, but I really wanted to go shooting now that my back is feeling a bit better.

I'm jealous. Here in Minnesota, there's just a minimal coating of snow on the ground. You can still see the grass showing through. It is, at least, bright and sunny.

I want to go to the range today, but family duties call. Right now it's sunny outside and warm short sleeve weather here in NW Florida.

Given the choice I'd rather be back in Alaska, but my wife likes it here. Go figure.

Good Shooting

Christmas & Thanksgiving are the 2 days I don't mind getting a good case of the warm & fuzzy's w/ friends & family. I'll go shooting tomorrow...besides the ranges are closed :D

I will be at the range within a week or so, unless the wind chill is down to the 'teens. If it is raining the blued firearms simply won't make the trip.

It snowed all nite here. I went out and walked around my land in it. There's nothing better than a steady snow late in the nite. the whisper of it hitting what has already fallen to the ground, the muted sounds of small animals, the rustle of wind and the dim almost bluish glow that seems to backlight everything. I can go a few more days without shooting for that. It's the only thing that makes winter tolerable.

Guys, I'm talking about going to the range tomorrow, not on Christmas Day.

As for all of the ranges being closed... Hehehehehe...

My parents live in a rural area, folks. The range is ALWAYS open if you're a member and have the most recent combination to the lock on the gate.

I think your area of New York is going to get your snow tonight as this storm reorganizes off the Jersey Coast and plows up through to New England.

It's a rather white Christmas 'round these parts here, too - we got about an inch of snow last night.

Not going to the range today, though. I'm still resting my trigger finger from shootin' 200 rounds through the AR-15 day before yesterday! :D ;)

Winters have been different in recent years.

10 years ago, the first snow flurries would come in late september (sometimes), or usually by october. By middle to late november, your first "permanent" stuff would be on the ground.

The snow would finish melting completely in may. Your last big snow storms would come in March or April, though the weather was much milder between them than it had been in January and February.

Last couple years, snow didn't come until well into december. If this winter is like last winter, it won't go away until late, either.

El Nino, I guess. Summers been hotter too.

At any rate, I'd LOVE NOTHING MORE than a nice, warm, GREEN Christmas. People who generally "like" snow are people who think of "snow" as a light dusting, just enough to look pretty.

That's not snow. Having to scoop out your driveway when it's up to your KNEES is snow. Having snow banks on the sides of the road over six feet high....now THAT'S snow!

Snowmobilers, of course, love that stuff, but I'd just as soon have a nice light dusting and leave it at that.

We got about a foot or so today sucked big time. Roads were horrible basicly Xmas was canceled for my mom today I was the only one who was able to make it. So she moved it to tommorow for everyone else.

Nightcrawler

I couldn't agree more SNOW SUCKS. I bet the people who think snow is nice never plowed for days straight with only a break to get some food. I would also bet these same peeps havn't seen a foot of that white crap on Mothers day.

3 or 4 inches here. Got a vehicle in the shop, but should be able to get out the door and leave the auto-exhaust stink of the city behind us within a few days.

Headed for a quieter spot. More snow there than here in town. Slower pace, no TV, electricity, running water. Snowshoes and sleds required to get into the cabin.

Great place to shoot...

Ohhhh Peetmoss....You've so much to learn (hehe) The only winters I like are the ones where I have to plow for several days straight.
NH winters aren't like they used to be. Of late, our winters seem to be warm, then rain, then cold..which creates ice, then warm....etc., etc.
Right now we are well on our way to 18 to 20", which in the "old days" would have been a fairly normal storm.

Edited to ask: Where is "CNY"? Central N.Y.?

Theres about 8 inches on the ground here in Michigan and more on the way!......:) I love snow. Whats wrong with shooting in the snow it takes longer for bbl's to heat up:)

no range time tomorrow like I hoped with the new Colt defender. expecting 12 inches of snow .... its heavy now.

We got about 3 inches Christmas eve here. First time I have seen a white Christmas in 8 years. Had to come to Korea to see it. Aint that a bummer.
