In another thread, someone asked if it was too cold to go shooting. Well, the college was nice enough to give everybody an impromptu day off. Does that mean I have an extra day to go shooting? Unfortunately, no. The local shooting range is in a dry lake bed that isn't so dry right now.:D :D

I live in a place where we *see* snow every year (we're at the base of a 10K mountain) but (according to my neighbors) the last time it snowed this much was about 1980. In fact the entire time we've lived here, my daughter has had ONE snow day where they let the kids out early, and it all melted before the kids even got home from school. We had 9.5 measurable inches at 9AM.

Global Warming, y'know.:banghead:

You know, the damn funny thing is I moved south to avoid the snow that was prevalent in upstate NY... oh well.

Snow's beautiful stuff...if you don't get it often. We only got 3" this weekend, but the kids and I had a lot of fun. With the right clothes on, I could sit out in it all day- better than a day at a hot sandy beach IMO.

Funny thing is that my daughter and I drove about 20 miles to a higher elevation to do some snow shooting just yesterday. Problem was, too many other desert dwellers were up at the mountain pass, so we never got to set up targets. And the only places safe enough to go shooting at our elevation will all be mud bogs in this weather.:(

28 degrees is nuthin'

impressive muzzle flash from a Kel-Tec P11 shooting Remington 115 grain JHPs. not an ideal combination for low light battle.

Here In Alabama

we are so happy just too see a flake or two; but it never stops us from going
to the range.:uhoh: Well, except one time when the Winter Storm of '93 blew
thru here; as it dumped a measured 24" in my backyard.

BTW, both dogs were brought inside to sleep on blankets as we had NO
heat for 'bout three days.

I remember shooting in the snow once as a young'un on my uncles farm back in Missouri. Dad had laid down a couple of folded Army surplus blankets for prone rifle shots. We all had a good time. Snow kinda muffled some of the noise, snow kinda melted around the front end of the blanket where the blast was, snow kinda made it real hard for the youngest of the group (moi) to police ALL the brass that the Garand and Carbine tossed out beyond the blankets.

'Twas fun tho'.

I remember sitting in a duck blind with a wet, smelly labrador a couple of times in a snow blizzard. The dog was as happy as a wet smelly clam and I was freezing my young butt. Never been a big waterfowl hunter as a result.

Squirrel hunting in the woods with a little snow on the ground w/ Dad (too much snow seemed to keep the tree rats holed up and I wasn't allowed to shoot up into any nests) are good memories as is one particular pheasant hunt with a little snow on the ground.

But with that much snow falling HP, I'd probably be thinking about staying indoors and reading or watching something about the 101st at Bastogne, maybe raising a hot toddy in their honor.

Snow is God's way of telling people in Seattle to shut up about the rain.
Everyone said how glad they will be when it gets back to 42 and raining.
No rain today and it got into the 50s.

It's all about perspective... looks like about 4" of snow. From a Tahoe perspective thats just a dusting. I like shooting tracers in snow weather.
No worries about fires.

That's nothing. We got 2.5 FEET in 3 hours just before Christmas. It was up to the top of the bumper on my F150. Closed the whole city of London, Ont.
And please reduce the size of your pictures. A dial up user will be loading this page until next week.

Winter shooting requires the right tools.

Czech Brno Mauser 98K w/winter trigger, Yugoslavian 196gr ammo, W. German snow camo, Dillon range bag, Russian "Tourist 6" spotting scope, Cabela's shooter's mittens

Thats just a itty bittty bit of snow, and from the looks of its fluffyness, I'd bet its only around freezing or so; In my opinion thats just about the perfect temperature... but it does make it harder to find spent brass.

I've noticed up here that this global warming just seems to push our winters back in the year now, instead of having snow from late-october until march or so, we get it in late-december until... what early june!?!

You location says you're in a "Freedom loving Red State". Judging from the pics you posted, it looks like you're now in a "Winter loving White State". :D
I'm smack in the middle of PA and we got our first accumulation yesterday. About 1/2 inch. Bwahahahah!
