Here is a group pic with one that I built. I wanted a short slide 45 on a full size frame. Couldn't find one or they were super expensive, so I built one. I used a Colt Series 70 frame and an Officer sized slide I bought on Evil-bay. The internals are mix and match Colt and Wilson's. The barrel is Colt. I've since changed the grips to wood. It's the one with the Punisher grips.........they were the only black grips I had at the time.

Why the short slide on a full sized frame?

Well.....Capacity, better grip, all my other 1911 grips fit, none of my buddies has one, I could go on and on....besides, the real issue to me was not the concealability of it but the presentation. Clears leather faster.
As to how it shoots, I've found it does not like hollowpoints that much. Everything else it will gobble up, including some butt ugly lead wadcutters that a friend gave me.
I am glad you liked it, I still have some more work to do on it like stippling, engraving and maybe a bobtail?
If you are going to build one, the folks here and at M1911 forum are all pretty helpful and willing to guide you through......

I am contemplating building one from scratch and starting with a pre fitted frame and slide http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/st...UTO PRE-FIT SLIDE & FRAME COMBO&s=49800#49800 which is a little expensive but it would be nice if it shot good when it was done and I'm certainly not tooled up to fit a frame and slide. I wish I could find a pre fit like that in stainless; I would prefer not having to do a finish too or I guess nickle plating is a possibility but then what about the pre drilled holes and so forth?

Cash flow is the biggest barrier; I have bought so many guns in the past several months that my piggy bank is too low to use for guns anymore. So I'll have to pinch some pennies and buy parts as I go after springing for the frame and barrel.

We'll see...

I just want to do it as entertainment, it fits my personality to take on the challenge and the satisfaction of doing my own.
