I'm in middle tennessee, and I'm aware of most of the local, well organized ranges.

But once in a very long while a guy gets the urge to shoot at fruit (cheap pumpkins, watermelons, etc) or have a real bowling pin table match, or maybe even wants to put holes in an rusted out import.

Where would a responsible gun owner go to do these things in middle TN?

You could look into the Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). Shooting is allowed in those areas, although I don't know if the rules are different now that hunting season has started.

Bowling pin matches shouldn't be too hard to find, although I haven't looked for any.

Good luck on finding rusted out imports to shoot. The WMAs require each person to clean-up after shooting.

The Tennessee Firearms Training Complex isn't in Middle Tennessee but the eastern part of West TN and an excellent facility for all types of shooting. They have a huge 500 yard range and twice yearly hold a machine gun shoot with all kinds of unconventional targets and firearms.

Tennessee: home of former Vice President Al Gore (sorry about that) and 11 electoral votes for George W. Bush . . . . . . twice.

Excellent! That'd give me time enough to (hopefully) finally get my fal finished. Can't have enough firepower hunting those dangerious maytags, ya know.

Mind if i bring one or two of my regulars with interesting toys?

Wouldnt forsee it being a problem. Just have to keep it limited to certain parts of the farm. We have cows on the place. Just curious where abouts in the boro are ya? I am Northfield area by the elementary school.

Cheatham county has a good range fo some of that its outdoors with 25, 50, and 100 yard berms. I would however not bring the old washer though. But if you want to shoot verious mellons and pins you are more than welcome. The bigest thing about this range is to clean up after yourself. Their have been many a strange item to be found to shoot at their. AGAIN CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF..!!! we had this range closed down do to some vandels, with alot of help form members on this board and others we were able to get it opened again ( I dont know if we directly affected the reopening but like to thank we did) After several truck loads to the dumpster. Also you have to let me know when your coming so I can join you. I can bring some trash bags:D

Andrew P,

You wouldn't happen to be willing to extend that invitation to a former fellow Red Leg, would ya? (Particularly one who would love to find somewhere where he (and the person who invited him to their farm) can shoot his Rem 700PSS out further than 200 m.) I promise to bring plenty of fun toys.

Of course , hell we might as well make it a big ole TN party lol!!! OEF you can shoot up to 1000m in some places on the farm. Maybe do a cook out etc.... And BTW what kind of toys ya got:D  Oh yeah where in the crap in the gun store in Franklin? I have looked all over the place for that darn place. I know its off 96 somewhere.

And BTW what kind of toys ya got?

Nothing NFA or super exciting, yet.

I do, however, have half a dozen AK's (7.62x39, 7.62x54R and .22lr), a growing collection of mil-surps (Mosin's, Arisaka, SKS, Vz52's, Garand), the aforementioned PSS, a couple Smith wheelguns, a couple Para-Ord LDA's, and quite a few others, about 3 dozen total.

Franklin Gun is at exit 65. Go west until you're at the light with the BP and McD's on your right. Turn right and proceed util you pass the Nissan and Dodge dealerships. At the crest of the hill, you'll turn right onto Lakeview Drive. Turn into the bowling alley parking lot and Franklin Gun will be around back in the little strip mall.

I live less than a mile away, so I spend a lot of time (and money) visiting with Jerry, Mike and Brian.

AndrewP,

If you were to make it a middle TN gathering of sorts, I promise you there would be more than enough interesting toys to keep you occupied for a few hours to say the least.

Please don't feel obliged to do this or invite anybody you don't want to invite I was just answering your "What kind of toys?" question.

Oh not all. I would love to have as many as we could get. Now mind you this place is very rural. So there are not alot of ammenities in the general area. But I guess thats why I love it so much. I was just joking around with the toys thing. I have a few fun ones myself. One thing though, my dad in law has a very vested intrest in the farm. He is a retired LEO, so guns are a plenty around his house. But need to run the idea by him just for final approval. Other than that I do not forsee ANY issues. Heck I knew a few guys from the recruiting station that will show up also. Freaking office full of gun nuts. :neener:

Non-traditional gun range?

I just read in the news some Iraqi Muslim psycho (wait, that's redundant) was indicted for trying to buy machine guns and grenades to launch an assault in Nashville.

If you Tennesseans don't get your heads out of your rear-end and stop playing kissy-huggy with with immigrants, illegal and otherwise, your streets are going to be your gun range.

I lived in Tennessee for 13 years and cannot believe what's happened.

Andrew. If you were adressing that question to me, go here:

http://www.modbee.com/24hour/nation/story/1793790p-9661658c.html

This is a follow up to the story where he was busted in the first place. I moved away from TN in '98, but am horrified to learn that TN is granting driver's licenses to immigrants.

I've been in California since 98, and I see first hand what happens with socialist immigration policies.

You people have no idea what you're letting yourselves in for. But you're going to get a real education.

Heh, sorry it took so long to get back to you Andrew. Right now I'm living with family over in the riverbend area. I normally shoot out at the violia range (goes out to just short of 300 yards). It can support a fairly large group if you feel a need to check us over before taking us to the farm.

Not familiar with the riverbend area. If it is where I think it is you might be around the corner from me Not familiar with the violia range either. Can ya clue me in. I dont get to get around to much I usually stuck in this office or in some high school somewhere. I am not to worried about folks but if yall would like to met up prior thats cool with me. Mind if I drag a few folks with me???

PS Feel free to email or PM me about details.

Just dropped you an email Andrew. I'm going to suggest anyone else who's interested do the same, so he can start pulling together an email list for when deer season ends.

Violia is out in warren county, its about a 45 minute drive from murfreesboro. Pretty big place, $5 a head per day. 3 rifle stands 1 goes to about 290 yards, another to 150, third to 100. The 100 yard rifle has a couple of gongs setup too. Two pistol stands, one with plenty of steel plate (some cowboy action stuff, some swingers). Occasionally he'll also have rimfire siholoutes setup. And he is setup to throw clays (its not quite sporting clays, not quite trap either... but is still fun and good practice). Its a pretty nice place, but blowing holes in hard drives (and certainly in maytags) is a no-no.

You've also got On-Target (the indoor range over near the mall), and Big Springs that does nothing but clays. Also a few other place back towards nashville but I don't tend to visit them..

That sounds like it might be alot of fun. Would love to do some steel shooting. And getting an email list together would be great. I can give yall my cell. Its a toll free one so no biggie there. I am getting excited about this. I really wanna make this happen. I got your email also.
