Whew... For a minute there I thought this was the Norc I sold someone with a very similiar name a while back....

(and tuner, if it had been, I was not aware of any issues with it)

ps.. farscott - Take him up on the offer - Tuner's a great guy and really knows his way around a 1911. Keep your ears open and you can learn alot from him.

...Just don't do like I did and spend what felt like a solid two days awake and working at his table. (Sorry 'bout that Tuner!)

Amish Bill

HEY! I thought you'd moved to the Arctic or somethin'.

I'm a lot closer and easier to find since I moved. Straight north on I-85, 60 miles from Charlotte...about 3 miles off the Old US-64 exit. Seems like I still owe ya a firing pin stop, since I had to kill yours that day.

The only instance I ever saw or heard of that caused a firing pin stop to get hung up in the slide after it had been in and out a few times. Just grabbed and held on...and we had to cut it in half to remove it. Never did figure out why it did that. Crap occurs, though...

If ya get up this way, I've got another one, (The RIGHT one this time):p prepped and ready to go.

I really WANT to visit Tuner as I need to learn more about the 1911. Not to mention I gotta try TurboCoffee.

I am meeting the previous owner of the Norinco later this week so we can unwind the deal, and I am sure we will discuss Tuner's offer in more detail.

Mmmmm Turbo Coffee..... ;-)

I don't make many trips up 85 lately. Glad to hear that you're easier to get to now. I recall it being quite the adventure to find you the first time. Heck - I got turned around within 100 yds just trying to get back out!

I have some spare parts to add to your bins next time I stop by. Little things I don't see myself using, GI grip safety, etc.

I still need to get your list of recommended spares again. Without the proper numbers it sometimes hard to tell which part I'm looking at in the Brownells website.

Have some good holidays, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Smokey 1911 Day, etc. :)

(still being glad it's not the Norc I sold that's messed up)

I gotta plan.

I'm going to sell tickets inside the Tulsa Gun Show to folks so they can watch Tuner and Old Fuff do the Grumpy Old Men routine.

Collect my monies, and ruuuunnnnn, to the fellow with all the USGI Guns, parts mags and stuff. Ruuunnn to some other folks with shotguns and OLD K frame revolvers too.

Tuner and Old Fuff will have to be nice to me...or I won't tell them where these folks are. I may be younger than Tuner and Old Fuff...Blackmail,Bribery will outdo youth and skill any day principles still apply. :D

Okay, back to original topic. I have shot the Norinco's , I missed out on a LNIB ( never fired actually) for $150.

So in looking at original photos, and re-reading the comments...
It was posted the slide is toast. I read that correct didn't I ?

Okay, I am allowed a dumb questions from time to time...here goes.

Norinco Steel is supposed to be great. In the old days, did they not weld these slides up and re-cut to spec's?

Yes I know frames were cut for 'disposal' and welded back up...meaning the rails had to be re-done. I understand this differs a bit in stress areas.

Still...maybe I dreamed this...still, did not folks weld up slides to repair, get back to specs, or as part of the era of the start of getting the 1911 'adaptable" to other uses besides combat use, such as Bulls-Eye and such for accuracy?

Just wondering. Not a machinist, I did do some metalwork and understand difficulties involved.

Meaning the barrel is in bad shape. Needs replacing. Still the damage done to lug areas of slide occurred - weld up - re-cut to specs, and good to go?

Hey! Waitadangminnit! I couldn't get Joe up off the floor the day he took that little Bluetick home with him. He walked in with an old ugly pistol...handed it to me...spotted the pup...and I couldn't get his attention for 30 minutes. It was love at first sight. He probably woulda shot me if I'd told him he couldn't have her.

Uh...Scott! You wouldn't need a Saint Bernard pup by any chance...:)
Still got baby teeth and almost 40 pounds.:D

St Bernard

If I didn't already have too big a flock of dogs and cats, thats the one I'd love to have. One real cutie! :)

Tuner, did you get my PM?

Tuner,

We already have four dogs, all of which are rescues. One terrier, two poodles, and one Maltese-poodle mix. Until we move, four is the maximum we can handle at this house.

Of course, if you run across any small poodles, my wife will find room for a fifth. Trust me, that is how we ended up with number four.

Yeah. That's pretty much how I ended up with twelve! Eight are rescues...
all but two picked up as abandoned. One was a return from our litter of Collies that had been neglected and abused after being injured and unable to perform his "duties." One was taken from a kill shelter 24 hours from his scheduled time to take the last walk. ANother Collie that was judged as
too vicious to be adopted. Best dog you ever saw. One abandoned dog was a 4 week-old Saint Bernard. Another good boy, and gentle as a kitten...
but he IS gonna be a big boy.

ulflyer...Got it. Still thinkin'. Got another Rand on my radar screen, and not sure if I can afford/justify it right now. Maybe in two weeks, things'll be brighter.;)

Rand

Uhh..ahh, can I have the Rand? Swap you a new Colt, plus......

Sorry. I tracked one down that belonged to my pappy many years ago.
An old gun-tradin' buddy of his has it, and we're in the midst of negotiations
on the gun. He wants to trade, but he'll likely go with cash.

They traded for the Union Switch that now resides in a safe deposit box at my credit union. Bad trade for Wyatt...Good trade for me, but in those days, a Union Switch was just another GI pistol, although they did fetch a slightly higher price than Colts, Rands, and Ithacas then. Seems like the ol' man told me that he had less than 200 bucks in it. 'Course, in the mid-60s that was a helluva lot more money than it is today.

Tuner,

I passed along your offer and will do so again. I will try to get him to take you up on it. He mentioned that he wanted to talk to the smith who said the pistol was "good to go" as is. I warned him that the pistol was anything but "good to go" and should not be shot.

Thanks again for the offer; I appreciate it more than I can say.
