I just picked up a 54-1 chambered in 9mm and also wanted to set it up for the 7.62x25mm because of the cheap ammo. What all do I need? I have been reading many of the old threads on the conversion process but haven't seen really any specific to the 54-1. Is the barrel all that I need? Maybe some original Tokarev mags? Do I really need a different barrel bushing? Will any Tokarev 7.62x25 barrel work? thanks

Surfzombie, I believe you can take a the 7.62 version and just get a 9mm barrel and bushing but the other way.....first is the smaller ejection port, then there may be a spacer in the mag well but I am not sure.
Go to canadiangunnutz .com and you can search there. In Canada there are a lot of these Norinco pistols and people like them. I believe the switch from 9 to 7.62 is possible but you can check there for yourself. I hope this helps.

I think the Norinco 54-1 has the longer ejection port. The only one with the smaller ejection port is the Norinco Model 213, AFAIK. You should be able to convert with just the barrel and bushing.
What type of magazines do you have, narrow or wide?

Just buy the barrel off of egunparts with the link and it should just drop in, if you have the smaller mag well, you will have to unpin it, if you have the converted mags, you will need a tok mag, so barrel and mag you are good to go.

I believe the bushing must also be swapped out as the 7.62 barrel is smaller in diameter.

I have the wide mags with the spacer built into it and the bushing on mine will work with the 7.62 barrel. I checked the I.D. and it is the same as the regular Tokarev bushing. So I think a barrel and regular mag and I'm set. thanks for your help guy's.
