I made the mistake of buying a non-standard Remington 870 copy, shotgun right out of highschool. It's been serveral years now, and the shotgun, which is a Norinco model 98 with rifle sights, has a busted rear sight. I would like to know if anyone on these boards knows of a resource for norinco parts. I would like to replace the rear sight if possible. I have searched the web hight and low, and I can not find any.

Also, exucse my lack of knowledge on gunsmithing, but if I can not find a replacment rear sight, would a decent gunsmith be able to remove the front ramp sight off of the barrel and install a brass bead type sight?

Thank you for all of your help guys / gals.

Perhaps....

Try CDNN

www.cdnninvestments.com

They carry a lot of odd things like this. I don't think they are much on being a parts depot, but I know they have carried Norinco products in the past. They are in Abilene Texas by the way.

How close a copy is it? I bought a Chinese M-14 knock-off and found that USGI parts fit it just fine. Have you tried a real Remington/Mossberg 870 barrel? You can find them used and they may fit just fine. Try Numrich

Sorry, Remington and Norinco barrels aren't interchangeable, due to the different placement of the barrel support ring.

Only Norinco barrels will work.

Most pumpguns can be drilled and tapped to take the various peep sights like the Lyman and Williams. That may be the best approach here.

Removing the front sight base will require refinishing the barrel.

Next time, buy a real 870.

Actually, you CAN put a Remington bbl. on the 'Rinco 870 copy. I did just this when centerfiresystems.com had an overrun of police-type slug bbls. (with a tritium sight up front...SCORE!) Since the barrel ring is further back on the genuine Remington barrel, you just need to make a spacer to take up the extra room out front, if you see what I mean. I used a piece of cutoff pipe that was laying around at my local hardware store. Just for grins, I had the local longgun doctor add a piece of scope rail to the pipe so I could stick one of those lithium flashlights on it. In keeping with the economic spirit of this gun, I used one of the Chinese-made copies of the SureFire light, available at a mediocre gun show near you...This set up wqrks perfectly BTW.

Do you have any photos, or can you get anyphotos of how you did this I'm a very visual person..

josh, this was pretty simple. With the magazine cap off, just imagine sliding a short section of pipe--it was 3" or so as I recall--over the mag tube, 'til it touches the barrel ring. Then put the cap back on. The 'smith merely mounted a short piece of Weaver rail to the pipe, so I could slide on one of those M6 super duper tactical flashlight holders on the gun. Got it now?
