I have come into posession of a couple of boxes of Norma 93 gr JSP bullets, which I understand were originally designed for use in .30 Carbine. Since my Speer book shows loads for a jacketed 100 gr "Plinker" for .308 win, I was wondering if I could shoot the Normas in my .308 cal Winchester model 88. My concern is the Normas are marked ".307" rather than ".308". I'm not that technical a rifle guy. Will the thousandth difference cause bore erosion or other evil things to happen and are there other reasons I might not want to do this?

Thanks.

Yes, no, and no.

Yes, you can shoot them in your .308.

No, they won't be the most accurate load you have ever shot.

No, there won't be any evil thing.

The only thing I would recommend is stay with the "Plinker" load data, as loading them very fast would probably result in a melt-down before they got to the target.

Also, be sure and check neck tension by pushing them very hard against a workbench and see if they stay where you put them.

Your .308" expander will probably not leave a lot of case neck tension with .307" bullets.

Thanks, RC

I've got some Sierras if I really want to hit something. I just wanted to try the Normas because I had them and I was curious. I'm 100-percent with you on the plinker loads.

Thanks again.

307 might-probably mean a reduced load in 308, as in 307/308Win. Both 308 and 307Win rifles used a .300/3085" bore/groove just as the 30 carbine. Put a mic or caliper onto a few bullets. I'd predict no .307 projectiles. Load light or they can fail in flight from rotational speeds. Do you chrono loads?Best
