Northern Virginia Shoot?

Thursday works even better as my wife insists on watching horrible TV programming :banghead: and I am usually itching for an excuse to escape

Weekdays are bad for me(school and work full time) but workable. I could do 8 oclockish mon,tue and wed, but thursday is out(I have class until 10). If anyone wants to do a shoot friday or saturday Im willing too. Glad to hear the first nova gathering went well, and hopefully I can make the next one,

Sapp,

We will do our best to continue my "No Shooter Left Behind" policy on our get-togethers. But I must say you sound like a busy guy! I totally understand as I am doing the school/work thing as well. Hang in there!

Guys,

Whatever it takes to get a chance to shoot Hightec's model 19, it is worth the sacrifice. I has the best trigger I've ever tried on a revolver. Crucible's C&S trigger conversion on his 1911 is great too.

Kony gave me the chance to try his Styer M9. I've always wanted to shoot one and I can say it's a neat pistol.

Thanks again,

usp_fan,

About that M19, could not agree more! Thanks for the kind words on the Steyr. I have enjoyed shooting and letting others shoot this piece. Definitely not for everyone. This mostly applies to the sights as their suited to combat, not target, IMHO.

Shooting Days

The best days for me are the first or fourth Wed. of the month. Next best would be the first or fourth Monday or Tuesday of the month. Third week is totally out due to Board of Directors meeting on Thursdays. I will let Kony keep the tab and pick which evening we meet. I suggest 1830 [6:30pm] for a time.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on the model 19.

Hey all,

Just got back from a business trip with the flu! :cuss:

Anyhow, not sure if this will appease all but let's see what kind of reaction we get. How about having our next shoot on Tuesday Feb. 22nd?

Not counting weekends, I think Tuesday or Wednesday evening works best for the majority of folks here. Will this work? If so, we need more consensus on time. I kind of favor 6:30-7PM myself but realize this might be difficult for some to swing. Me thinks I am starting to see why NoVA shoots happen less frequently than they should.

I was actually hoping to head out on Wed or Thursday this week. not sure about next week, I'll check my calander in the morning.

6:30 is tough to do . . . I usually don't make it home till 6:30 and then if I rush i can put my stuff up, change out of my suit, grab the guns and drive to the range and get there by 7:30 (without eating dinner). I usually want to pause though, so I don't often arrive before 8 (plus, from about 9:00 on the NRAHQ Range is pretty much dead quiet).

Tuesday Feb. 22nd?

IIRC, the NRA range is closed to general shooting on Tuesdays. They're open to the general public Monday 10-5, Wed/Thursday 5-10, Friday 10-10, Sat 8:30-10, and Sun 8:30-7.

Chris

Im not sure if the drive would be worth it to anyone, but Shooters paradise on route 1 in Woodbridge would be open until 9:00 on Tuesdays if we wanted to try there.

I have a membership there, and can get two shooters on the same range as me free. The range prices are not bad either, 10 dollars for first shooter, 8 dollars per extra shooter(if sharing the lane).

Glad you guys managed to actually get together... last mini get together in NOVA that I remember, it ended up being 2 groups of us at opposite ends of the shooting range, we didn't all get to meet each other! Oops! :D

First Wed In Mar

Mtnbkr is correct the range is closed on Tuesdays for IDPA, cowboy action shooting etc. How about Wed Mar 02, the first Wed in March. Time would be 1830 to 1900 with dinner after ward. QUESTION KONY why would you want to take the flu on a trip?

Wow, in order to save face, I am going to blame this mistake on my flu. :neener:

hightech, I am just generous, I guess. :) I usually don't get this sick often but I go down like a ton o' bricks when I do! :(

As for the shoot, looks like we could do Feb. 23rd or March 2nd (both dates are Wednesdays) if we go to the NRA range.

Sapp brought up the option of doing Shooter's Paradise so that is another option as well. I have never been to this range so I certainly have no reservations about trying it out.

Undertoad, that must've sucked. I'll tell ya one thing, as hard as it is to coordinate these NoVA shoots, we should make sure everyone meets each other! :D

Available for your pleasure.

On Wed 03-02 I will have available for your pleasure  a S&W “performance center†model 19-7, 3 inch, ported, hammer & trigger polishing, trigger over travel adjustment screw, deep blue polishing. DO not confuse this model with the one I had in Jan. This is a new in the box from the factory. As I write this it is a virgin but do not expect that on 03-02.

Well, I headed down to the NRA range tonight to try out my new Colt .45 . . . .

and it seems like everyone else in Northern Virginia who purchased a gun at the weekends show was there as well. When we arrived at 7:45 there were 20 something people in front of us and a 2 hour waiting list. Needless to say, I didn't get to go shooting.

I'll be back Saturday afternoon

I'm going tonight around 6pm to try out a recently built AR (my lower half and bolt, my friend's upper half). I also need to sight in my 10/22 and spend some quality time with my K9.

Chris

Looks like I am going to be making another try at getting to the range tonight too.

I should be there around 6:00 as well.

crap, I had decided not to go since I forgot to lube the bolt assembly and clean the barrel (it's new) of the AR I'm bringing. That and the half owner of the AR can't make it.

Can you bring a 22cal cleaning kit and some lube? That sounds really bad.

I still need to sight in my 10/22...

Chris

Went down again tonight, and again it was pretty crowded. We got there at 5:30 and still had to wait a bit.

Didn't see anyone I know - but then, I didn't know who/what to look for.

Where you there mtnbkr?? I didn't see any AR15s on the line.
I ended up shooting on Lane 1 and my father in law was in one of the middle lanes.

Put 150 rounds through the new colt - field stripped and wiped it down after 100 - it was working well. Much more accuate than my old Glock. Had 3 FTFs, all were the result of poor grip positioning. Annoying, but as with all things, when you get something new you need to practice with it.

Well, looks lik MTNBKR and I were sitting 2 feet away from each other in the waiting room and didn't even realize it.

Thats the power of the internet

I'll be back at the NRA around 2:30 pm this afternoon with my father in law (and possibly one of his military friends). Look for me in an orange and white shirts (Go VOLS!!!!) and jeans. I'll be firing my Ruger Mk II and the new SS Colt 1991. Father In Law is a big guy - firing his new mini Keltec and an older Colt Government Model.

You're a UTenn fan? I thought I left that behind when I left Tn. :p

I won't be shooting today, but if I'm in the area around that time, I"ll stop by and say Hi. I'm tired of nearly meeting you. :)

Chris

Anyone here own a Springfield XD? If so are you a part of XDTalk forums? BTW I bought my XD from that C&E gunshow recently in Dulles.

Hey XD40Assassin,

So exactly how many XD40's have you killed? :neener:

Sorry, just couldn't let that one pass. :D

Hope you guys got to meet yesterday. So far, looks like our next shoot is going to be scheduled for March 2nd (Wednesday) at around 6:30PM. Most likely at the NRA. Hope we get a good group. Attendees will be rewarded with a chance to shoot hightech's slick 19. If you already have, he's also bringing a new toy.
