I don't have a Nosler book. I am looking for some recipes using the Nosler 55 and 70 Varmit bullets in a 243.

If you are using or have used either of these bullets in a 243, did you like them? Results? What gun was/are you shooting them in?

I don't have a 243 (Win or WSSM or Weatherby) but for Nosler bullets I go to their web site http://www.nosler.com/index.php and scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says Reloading Data for Sportsmen (don't go to the Reloading Guide, that's a book for sale, go to the bottom of the page for the free online data).

Select caliber, then select a particular cartridge, then select bullet weight. It will give several accuracy loads with commonly available powders for that particular Nosler bullet.

Looking at Noslers 5th edition manual for the 55gr pill they show H414 to be the most accurate powder tested with a starting load of 48.5gr and a max of ( most accurate ) 52.5gr. Moving to the 70gr bullet they list varget as the most accurate powder tested at a starting load of 38.0gr and a max load ( most accurate ) of 42.0gr ,,,, Nosler used a bench mounted action with a 24in. Lilja barrel for all of their testing but is a standard 1 in 10 inch twist . I use 75gr VMAXs and 85gr Barnes TSXs bullets in my Rem 700 CDL and both loads prefer H414 at 45.0gr for the VMAX and 44.0gr for the TSX but my twist rate is 9.25 in. and may of course vary ever so slightly from the 1 in 10 twist performance. Hope this helps, 10 SPOT

I have used the 55's and H414 in my .243 custom Mauser varminter since 96, and it is devastating. Chronograpehed velocity from it's 24" Shaw Bull barrel will avg as high as 4080 fps, and it's very accurate considering it's weight.

Shown is a typical 100 yard group and the 3998 fps velocity for that days combo. Crows literally look like puffs of black smoke on impact. Certainly don't want to shoot these too quickly (save the rifle's throat), plus to get max speed exponentially increases propellant weight... NOT cheap shooting. Almost forgot. In my experience, mag primers are mandatory for consistent, top flight accuracy.

Nosler 243 win.

Nosler 6mm/70gr Ballistic tip .243dia. Spitzer. #39532. COL 2.62" ; Win. Brass. CCI BR2 primer. IMR 4350 powder. 6 group 30 shot average .744"; Another series .701", 1.128", .667", .788"= Average .821" No fowling shots. Rifle single shot Remington 243Win. 40X 6X18 variable scope. Groups would be better with the 36X on gun now. Over all, Berger bullets are more accurate. Sierra 85gr HPBT #1530 is a great all around bullet for varmint & deer. IMR 4064 is another great powder.

My 700 SPS V likes 70gr BTs with Win Brass, Fed 210M primers, and 42grains of Varget. 3440 fps avg and will shoot under .5 five shots at 100 yards

Viking I have tried the Nosler and Sierra 55's and the sierra 70's with several powders and have found H414 shot decent but I am still testing to find the load for mine. So far I have narrowed it down to the Nosler 55 with 44.0 gr. IMR 4895 (44.5 gr shot very consistent so I am backing off 1/2 gr. to try and get better accuracy), the 70Sierra with 36.8 gr. H4895 and 40.5 gr. of RE 15 for the 95 Berger VLD. I have alot of other data for a .243 if you need it. What gun are you shooting?
