Went shooting yesterday testing some handloads vs my factory ammo. Noticed a split after firing one of the factory “trophy grade” rounds. Looked through the rest of the box and found a dented shoulder as well as a crushed case body. I’ve always considered Nosler to be premium components but this is no bueno. What are the odds Nosler/Midway (will have to figure out who I got it from) would accept the return?

I am not sure if they will accept the return but that wouldn't stop me from contacting them. When you are buying premium ammo you should expect it to be in premium condition. I would contact both Midway and Nosler. Hopefully one of them will step up.

Did you buy this recently? I ask because if it was purchased during the great "O" ammo drought when the factories were going flat out and QC did a nose dive this was not an unusual thing. Still I would ask for replacments though.

Was the outside of the box damaged? If not that clunker slipped past Q C on the line...That’s a mighty ugly dent.

Stay safe.

Purchased about a month ago @FROGO207. Box looked perfectly fine so I didn't have any red flags until i noticed the split shoulder after firing. Hopefully one of them will make it right. Nosler doesn't make their lot# clear to the common man @jmorris. Do you know which set of numbers in the garbled mess represents lot#? I'm not close to the box to post a picture but will when I get home from work.

I would call or message Nosler directly. Ammunition is not returnable, but that doesn't mean the manufacturer can't back it's product.

I had some Nosler 240 gr JHP that had the cannelure all over the place on a few bullets. Have used them for years and never had that problem. It was only a few and only in one box. Online dealer( I think it was Midway) said they do not accept returns on ammo or components.Sent pictures to Nosler and they wanted a few of the bullets to examine. Coupla weeks later I came home to find a box of 250 sittin' on the porch.

They fixed you real good. ;)

Who can pinpoint the lot # from this photo for me? Sounds like I’ll skip over Midway and go straight to Nosler. Maybe get lucky like @buck460XVR!

#s below the barcode is just the product code, therefore the lot # must be above the barcode.
I think most manufacturers want to know about problems with their products for QA especially since the web gets problems out to their customers quickly

If they ask you to send them the bad ammo, remember you cannot ship it USPS, fines start @ $10,000, you must use Fed-Ex or UPS. Since I was only shipping bullets and not live ammo, I used USPS.

I agree Nosler should be contacted directly but wanting a replacement for defective ammo is not returning the ammo. I'm sure Nosler will make it right.

What I meant was... if the ammos were still in the sealed box, it’s not the vendors issue, it’s the manufacturer’s. I would think Nosler might want the damaged ammos back just as a reference to any additional issues that might come up, and replace it to the customer directly.

I had sent several pictures showing the issues with the cannelures clearly, but Nosler still wanted to inspect the bullets personally. I felt this was asking a lot for me to pay for packaging up and postage to ship 3 bullets, but I did it anyway, thinking it was a good gesture. Never asked for replacements, never really expected any. Was completely satisfied with how I was treated in the end. Seemed Nosler did stand behind their product, as least to me. Now I can imagine that ammo companies(even the most responsible of them) get hundreds, if not thousands of complaints a year. While some are probably legitimate, many are probably due to shipping, user error or just the gun they were shot in. You can see why they would want to see the evidence in person, not just a claim thru an e-mail or phone call. I always chuckle when I see threads like this where the poster says that RDSP sent them a new replacement part/something, for free, just because of a phone call. I always imagine that phone is now ringing off the hook from other folks, after reading the thread, all wanting something for nuttin' too.

Looks like someone in Quality Control has an advanced case of Cranial Rectumitis! I would be surprised if Nosler didn’t take care of it.

No such experience with Nosler products. Their bullets are always great.

I've returned defective ammo and bullets to Hornady in the past. Did two follow-up calls but never heard a word from them nor did I get any replacement product.

That’s Hornady for you. They seem to have forgotten what made their company. I’ll never use any of their brass again. Hung up a piece of once fired brass in a FL resizing die...and yes it was properly lubed. It was so brittle that I pulled the rim off the case trying to get it out. Strongly suspected that PMC was making their brass. Of course they wouldn’t confirm or deny that. Told me to anneal their brass . I annealed it all the way to the garbage can where it belonged.

Same lame service with their reloading equipment. I purged everything Hornady from my bench several years ago and have no regrets.
