I've never been a Glock lover or lover of anything plastic for that matter. A bold statement I know, but I cut my hangunning teeth on the classic 1911. I have a couple 1911's and a couple of S&W revolvers. With practice and control I have developed into a decent shooter with my guns.

That being said, I can shoot the lights out with my BIL's Glocks. He has a 17, 19 and a 21sf. The 19 is wearing some Ameriglo night sights with a ghost ring rear. Every time I pick it up I place an entire mag into one ragged hole at 25ft. That's offhand with cheap range reloads. I know the gun-mag-writers regularly do that at 25yds, but that's pretty good for me.

My Kimber is an early pre-series-II model and is fit quite tightly. It shoots good groups but not as good as that confounded Glock 19. Is it the sights, the gun or does it just work for me?:uhoh: The guns owner doesn't even shoot it as well as I do. Maybe it's my German heritage trying to tell me something. (I know Glock is made in Austria, but gimme a break)

Glocks really are not bad guns at all. I did not like them at first but, then I got sent to the armorers class and learned a whole lot about them. A Glock will actually outlast more pistols out there. They will take an insane amount of rounds through them before they even need to be cleaned. Even more impressive is how many rounds I have put through my oldest Glock and it is still as tight as it was the day I bought it. And it is a .40 cal!

Shoot what works for you and it sounds like it's the Glock!

I got 1911's of various kinds, Ruger P-series, Taurus Milleniuns, Makarovs, etc. as well as Glocks. My Glocks have been the only handguns I own that have been 100 percent reliable.

That's it, I just can't argue with what works. I don't want to get into a caliber debate, looks, weight, plastic .vs steel or any other nonsense. That danged Glock 19 stacks the rounds right on top of one another. Dead on the sights I might add.

I had a M&P .45 for a while and it was nice but I sold it and bought some 10rd mags for my 1911s and a .357mag lever gun. Ergo's were good but other than carrying a light it didn't do anything my other .45s couldn't do. Accuracy was OK but the groups weren't near as tight as my Kimber.

I see a new G19 in my future. I considered a 17 but think the 19 more suitable for carry and general use.

pmbiker, while I personally don't care for the glock pistol line I do appreciate that for some it is just the right choice. I have seen people who are pretty good shots do better with a glock. I do much better with my walther p990 than any glock model I have shot. Really my biggest gripe with the glock is the hype that surrounds it. While it is a pistol that needs to be looked at when considering a new pistol it is not an absolute.
If it feels right and you shoot it well go with it even if you have to keep quiet when asked "what do you shoot":)

Hehehe.. no one ever said Glocks were junk, just that they didn't like them.

Glocks are well built, accurate pistols... somewhat sensative to shooting style but an excellent pistol none the less.

Glocks are like tripe, either you like them... or you don't! heheheh :p

-:D

I've never had a bad word for Glocks, but must admit to looking down my nose at them from time to time. I am anything but a "fanboy" or "tactical poser" but I am a practical man. I have no problem using what works even if it tastes a bit like crow.

I have owned four Glocks. A 17, 19 and two different 21's.

It is no secret I love the Colt 1911a1 platform and do not care for the Glocks.

But, I always say buy / carry what works best for you. If that is a Glock then so be it. It is too each his own. What works for you is what is important. Jumping on the bandwagon of any platform because someone else tells you that it is the best is foolish.
Could be downright deadly....

I love glocks, but I also love 1911s. I have never had an issue with any of the glock that I have owned , used, or carried on duty.
I can shoot glocks decently and my shooting scores have never fell below 95% when qualifying with a glock 22/31. They are great guns that can take a lot of abuse. They also stand up to the elements extremely well.

It's silly to overlook a gun you shoot better than all others, including your own.

If you can outshoot your own gun the first time you try another, that's what we call a "clue"

I was a hater for years, calling them Blocks with every reference. Then, I for some unknown reason, bought a G17. That was it. It felt great, shot great, and suddenly..LOOKED great! I've since moved onto owning a 3rd gen G21 that is an incredibly accurate and reliable weapon. Bought a Lone Wolf® aftermarket barrel to shoot lead reloads though it with never a problem.

I don't see myself selling anything to acquire my new purchase, I don't sell guns anymore('cept for that M&P). Everything in my collection is a keeper and money is a bit tight right now. It may take a couple months but that's no problem.

Is there any reason to buy a new one as opposed to an older/used model? Seems if these things run forever a low round used gun would be fine. Is the rail on the newer models standardized or still an oddball? I could really live without a rail, my flashlights are all handheld at the moment. Didn't the earlier models not have a rail at all?

I guess I did call them blocks a time or two as well. Not much to look at but when it works that good and I shoot it so well what's looks got to do with it.

There are two extremes, those who hate Glocks with an unholy passion, and those who love them in ways that are probably illegal in many states.

Somewhere in between falls those of us who recognize them for what they are: solid, well made guns that go bang every time and with good-enough accuracy.
Personally, I think the Glock trigger is pretty horrible, and the appearance doesn't really do much for me, but I enjoy shooting it, and shoot nearly as well with my G19 as I do with my .22 pistols.

My Glock is the pipe wrench of my toolbag. It's not pretty, it's not sophisticated, it's not a carefully tuned precision instrument. But it excels within its purpose.

Buy used... it's not like it's hard to find parts for it.

Rails I believe came into play with the 3rd generation Glocks. Personally I prefer 2nd generation without the finger grooves.

I am sure that they are fine fire arms. However, they are ugly and smell bad. Remember... friends don't let friends drive Glocks.

Glocks are extremely reliable, and it's a great arms maker. G36 assault rifles are made of "plastic" too, and they are one of the best assault rifles made today! Who cares if it's plastic, it's just lighter, it aint gonna break.

SIX: "My Glock is the pipe wrench of my toolbag. It's not pretty, it's not sophisticated, it's not a carefully tuned precision instrument. But it excels within its purpose." I totally agree with this comment. Having carried nothing but Glock for my duty gun for over 4 years now, I have nothing bad to say about them, I think they are fine weapons. Like many people say to each their own, this goes the same with women (large, skinny, healthy lungs) as well as cars (foreign, 4 banger or big blocks) enjoy what you shoot and shoot it well:D

Colts, and Kimbers are the guns you show off to your friends at the range. Glocks are the guns you show to your enemies.

Saw that over at Glocktalk

My Glock G22 is the most reliable autoloader that I have ever owned.
And it's more accurate than I am too.
It's also the pistol that set the standard that all other polymer striker-fired pistols are measured by.

Come'on over to the dark side....

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

Besides, we get all the hot chicks.;)

Sounds to me like the grip angle is more natural to you, go ahead and get one, if you already know you shoot it well.

I hate glocks, however....

I hate Glocks, they are butt ugly, no appeal of any kind. However, I own one, a model 21. The big piece of plactic junk goes BANG everytime I pull the dang trigger!! Further, as others have said it puts them big ole .45's right on top of each other in one big ragged hole and I ain't talken about 25 ft. but at 25 yards and I'm sure that it will do that even at further distances. I hate GLOCKS. They are UGLEY, but they work!!! I carry mine. Enough said..
