I always figured that my suburban community was a typical soccer-mom blissninny hellhole. Now I wonder.
My wife is in a "Moms Club" -- a group of stay-at-home moms who get together to go to the playground or the zoo, and to otherwise stave off toddler-induced insanity.
The club started a babysitting co-op, and each participant had to fill out a survey listing whether the household had smoking, pets or guns.
(Nothing about 5-gallon pails, though...)
While I'm not terribly pleased that Dear Wife published the fact of our gun ownership, I guess that the other parents do have a right to know.
Anyway, I was surprised to find that eight out of the 18 moms acknowledged that there were guns in the house.
Typical responses were, "Yes - locked" or "Yes - but no ammo" or "Yes - ammo at brother-in-law's house." I can pretty safely conclude that these are mostly deer rifles or ducks guns.
Still, I am pleased that owning guns is pretty "normal" here.
I imagine that, were the club in downtown Minneapolis, the story might be different.
