Not as blissninny as I thought!

I always figured that my suburban community was a typical soccer-mom blissninny hellhole. Now I wonder.

My wife is in a "Moms Club" -- a group of stay-at-home moms who get together to go to the playground or the zoo, and to otherwise stave off toddler-induced insanity.

The club started a babysitting co-op, and each participant had to fill out a survey listing whether the household had smoking, pets or guns.

(Nothing about 5-gallon pails, though...)

While I'm not terribly pleased that Dear Wife published the fact of our gun ownership, I guess that the other parents do have a right to know.

Anyway, I was surprised to find that eight out of the 18 moms acknowledged that there were guns in the house.

Typical responses were, "Yes - locked" or "Yes - but no ammo" or "Yes - ammo at brother-in-law's house." I can pretty safely conclude that these are mostly deer rifles or ducks guns.

Still, I am pleased that owning guns is pretty "normal" here.

I imagine that, were the club in downtown Minneapolis, the story might be different.

I can understand the thought behind this statement, but personally, I disagree. I don't believe ANYBODY has a "right" to know what I have in my house. If their children play here, the guns are locked in the safe. ALL of them.

There's no way you can predict how this information will be used, but you can be sure that if it IS used it will most likely be against you. I know, tinfoil hat stuff, but I have a serious mistrust of soccer-moms. Most (not all) of the ones I've met are busybodies and are WAY too into other peoples' business. Eight out of eighteen leaves 10 mouths to blab your business.

I'm sure your wife thought she was doing a good thing though.

Just my .02

I aggree with k8ysv, better they don't know, the info won't ever be used to help you in any way. It not harming you is the best case scenario. Maybe more homes have guns and they aint talkin.;)

No, she wrote. "Of COURSE!", right? :D

You mean, FULL TIME mothers? Weird idea! Good one, but weird!

BTW, how's that new rug rat of yours doing, Matt?

could have some fun with the response though.

"yes ... all class III firearms are secured in safe"

"yes ... anyone need ammo? lets arrange a "reloading party"!

"yes ... don't worry, your children will be protected in our home"

"yes ... however house is free of 5 gal buckets"

:neener:

Well, I wish. My wife just barely tolerates my newly gained status of Armed American.

I hope this accidental survey is a step in her education...

As for the privacy issues, I would have preferred that either 1) the survey asked, "Are their any unsecured firearms in the house," or 2) that she had lied.

We are going to have a talk about future disclosures.

And thanks for asking about my junior future shooters. As a fairly new dad, any mention constitutes probable cause to pull out wallet photos. :)

Beautiful children, Mr. Payne.

Ya, children are as hard to film as guns sometimes. :)

BACK TO THE THREAD:

Nobody has any business knowing what's in the house.

Certainly I'd prefer that info was kept under wraps ..... but .. I guess the figures are perhaps better than expected!

Good to see the pics Andrew ... but hey .... that youngest was a babe last pic I saw ... has THAT much time really gone by? Sheesh ... they change so quick. :)

(Hope you get some sleep - oh my - do I remember those days ... even tho light years ago!!)
