Not happy with BCM

all the guys at gunshows keep saying BCM does not make there own parts, they buy them from LMT is there any truth to that?

It is mostly true that BCM doesn't make most of their own parts - most are sourced from elsewhere (I don't know who). BCM is basically a high quality assembler, with a few innovations here and there (the Gunfighter charging handle stands out). I like my BCM, but I'll note that Colt, LMT and Daniel Defense each make nearly all of the parts that go into their own rifles, which makes quality control easier and often results in a better price to the customer. Right now several of the best Colt models can be had just under $1000, which is hard to beat if you want an M4-style carbine (vs. a midlength).

Most AR companies don't make all of their own parts. What is important is the quality of the parts they use. A company like BCM is going to have higher standards for the type of parts they get than a company like DPMS will.

Doesn't seem so in this case... I'm pretty sure DPMS would have taken care of the shipping at the very least.

 Yes because a scratch is so important in regards to the function of a weapon. "Fit and finish" don't even register on the radar of what matters with an AR. I would take a scratched up BCM over 90% of the other arms on the market any day. I value function over looks.

And for the record don't bet on DPMS. A friend of mine is a dealer. He has lowers that are Cracked at the mag well. DPMS stonewalled him about replacing them and he finally gave up. He keeps them around to show people why they should never buy anything DPMS.

It isn't the scratched barrel I'm concerned about. It's the response of your "Tier 1" company. They gave him a hat... A hat and probably didn't pay him back for the shipping.. Which is what? $12? A lot of people are reading this thread and seeing how they handled this situation and will not buy from them. There are also other people's "Friends" that would tell you that DPMS was awesome Customer Service... Go roll your eyes with your amazing company who sends out hats for an apology... Ricockulous...

The response of the company was to fix the problem. Not quite sure what else you want out of them. I had a minor issue with a noveske. I shipped it to them, they fixed it. I never complained that I had to spend a whole 10 bucks in shipping to them. I got my upper back good as new with a hat in compensation as well. And I was perfectly fine with that.

And the "Awesome" customer service from DPMS doesn't correct the underlying bad product. When you get as much practice as they do I am sure your CS has to be good.

And since you put friends in "" I assume you are trying to imply that the story is false. So let me provide photographic evidence.

Note the wonderful care they took to get the Anodizing down into the crack. Such fine Finish they have.

I guess it is all in what your expectations are.

I like how you edit your posts twenty minutes after the fact. My statement was exactly as I meant it. I believe your story but I also believe there are people out there that have lot so of great experiences with DPMS...

Yes. And I expect my weapons to function. All other concerns are a very distant second.

Oh and for the record I don't own a single BCM, I have no particular loyalty to the brand. However I still understand the difference between something that works and something that is pretty.

Water-man its not that im satisfied with the hat, if you read through the thread more than 3 people have said they are now not going to go with bcm products do to this thread. So actually what I'm satisfied about is the fact that because they didn't pay the $15 for shipping they lost well over that in other sales to other companies that treat their customers with more respect and dignity than they did me.

Did they fix your rifle even though there was no functional problem with it? Yes they did. Where did they not treat you with dignity?

I swear I would not be shocked to see a post where someone tries to return a rifle over the upper and lower not color matching perfectly.

Kwelz, you need to look at it as a new product. It was scratched. It should not have been. They should have paid for the shipping. Seriously do you have no concept of Customer Service? Yea the gun is gonna get scratched when the buyer scratches it, but a company has to make it right if they deliver a product that is subpar (scratches and all). By making it right, I mean making it right, not glossy over the fact with a hat (unpaid advertisement). Dude, you are not even close to making this right in any way. You keep harping on the function and toolism of the AR, but a brand new piece of hardware should be unblemished. So if you got a nice Winchester long gun with a beautiful walnut stock and it had a scratch on the forearm, you won't complain and ask for them to fix the problem without any cost to yourself? Seriously dude. You can't see the problem because you are jack-up on m4carbine kool-aid.

like it or not, transaction is concluded so we're closing this thread before it degenerates further
