Not your typical AK thread

Uhh, none. The AK rules supreme in 7.62x39. I can also buy one in 5.56, 5.45. I can have an AK based rifle in 7.62x54mmR, and an AK based shotgun in 12, 20, and .410. And an AK in .308. I don't think there is really a market for more than those calibers. Mags would be problematic, too.

HAHAHAHA I have to laugh my friend but the 7.62mm and a .308winn it's the same cartridge. the only difference is whether or not it's 7.62x39mm 7.62x51mm or 7.62x(what ever other numbers the put here.)

HAHAHAHA sorry man but that just cracks me up no offense really I mean it.

USMCDK, I didn't list 7.62x51mm and .308. I only said .308, which I know is 7.62x51. I did list 7.62x54mmR (the round fired by the Mosin Nagant), which is NOT .308Win/7.62x51.

So, what's so funny?

I actually just purchased a Zastava M76 in 8mm Mauser. As soon as I get out to shoot it I'll post a range report.

And please don't ask how much I paid for it. Y'all would laugh at me.

I love the traditional 7.62x39 setup for the AK. I would however love to see some in pistol calibers like 9mm.

I'm in the market for a pistol caliber carbine, and having an Ak platform would be awesome.

I could totally enjoy an underfolder in 9mm on the pistol range.

Regards,

Mike

So how is 7.62x39 the same cartridge as .308? I know my vision isn't very good but at last check the case length is different even though the bullet diameter is the same. Same goes for 7.62x54r.

For the "purists", even the russians disagree with you. I'll take a S-12 anyday of the week. Too bad though, because the factory can't even keep up with demand.

I'm not really adding anything to the discussion here, but I'd love to have an RPK in 7.62x54R.

I wonder if you could turn a Romainian PSL into one? 'course then you'd be stuck with only ten round mags though. :(

did anyone say .308 was the same as 7.62x39 anywhere in this thread? avenger 29 said that .308 was 7.62x51.

I think a Saiga in .22

So do I. The GSG one has potential to be nice but at $500 it is priced a bit steep for what it is. I would be adding yet another saiga if they made a .22.

You know what I want? An AK in .500 S&W. Am I the only person who thinks that would be totally sweet?
I don't like the AK in 5.56 or 5.45, and even 6.8 SPC leaves a bad taste in my mouth (it's such an American cartridge... totally un-AK). However, big, brute calibers like 12 gauge LOVE the AK. It was made for the big and slow. Heavy damage at short range.
The AK would be a nice match for the .458 SOCOM, though I hate the rebated rim on that cartridge.

Bullet diameter ain't even the same. .308 is .308" and 'x39 is .311".

Dude, you know he's talking about the .308 Saiga, right? Very different cartridge. But the AK's still chambered for it.

MD, saaa-weeeeeettt!
What I really mean, though, is a Krink-type weapon in .500 S&W.
.500 S&W was made for a pistol, so it should be right at home in a Krink. And you'd have as much ME in a ~5lb gun as in a full-size FAL. Whoohooo!!

Hmm, fattest caliber in a krink from the factory is 9mm, the "Knight" carbine is chambered for 9x19... though if anyone other than Russian SF or SWAT could get one, I bet you could take it up to 10mm etcetera.

Krinks in pistol cal tend to be blowback...

The Izhmash factory makes Saigas in .30-06, .270 win, and .243 win, as well as a 9x?? - I don't think any of these are imported into the U.S. however. Tells me there's probably not a huge market for them. So I'd say probably not. *I* would buy a Saiga in one of those calibers, but I'm not your normal gun buyer.

Yes, that or .50 beowulf would rock!
