Note to FL tourists: 'Behave yourselves and all is fine....." (merged thread)

The Brady Campaign is deliberately misrepresenting information as to what the law actually authorizes residents to do.

All of the necessary factors to warrant the use of deadly force must still be present before it may be used by a Florida resident. Being "frightened" or "threatened" has nothing to do with it. The only difference between use of deadly force in public in Florida and say, Massachusetts, is the removal of the "duty to retreat" requirement.

I'm deeply saddened that the Democratic Party continues to ally themselves with people like the Brady Campaign, but unsurprised.

Right now it's a running between Florida and Texas as far as where I want my kids to grow up. Florida is winning.

Unbelievable.

Sounds to me like the idiots over at shootfirst.org are afraid of and distrust the law abiding citizens of Florida to use good judgement and be responsibile.

When did they develop this low opinion of the people in Florida? Why are they so damned interested in making sure that the criminals have a larger advantage?

My email to the address at their web site:

Greetings.

I came across the web site www.shootfirstlaw.org this morning.

If you don't mind my asking, how/when did your organization come up with such a profoudly low opinion of the law abiding citizens of Florida?

Are you aware that the recent changes to the Florida CCW laws have nothing at all to do with a victim shooting first?

Thank you -

You know, I think BradyOrg just shot themselves in the foot with the sign.

One, you don't piss off the tourism industry in a tourism sponsored state, period.

Two, criminals will look at the signs and be constantly reminded that if they step out of line, they may not have the opportunity to step back in line, permanently. Thus crime drops more than if they'd done nothing, and technically as a result of the new castle doctrine, which is excellent for us.

well there is no mass violence happening yet. :what:
i wonder if the article was wrong
on a positive note no tourist has asked me for directions

florida is a great place for the kids to grow up, as long as ur north of Broward. Ive spent all of my life in Broward since moving down from Pensacola, and its not the best county in the state. living next to the everglades is a plus though. Good fishing and (and hunting im told)

Well buddy - you just wait.

The new law doesn't go into effect until 10/1. Two more days and the streets will run with blood. Watch your six and keep the bugout bag in the 4X4.

And make darn sure you don't piss anyone off!

I lived in Miami for 2 months doing some medical school rotations at Dade County Hospital. Both were in the ER. Boy did this small town girls eyes get opened real big :what: Saw things I had never seen before or since. Roaches as big as prunes, many gun shots to the head all young black men, and the ambulance guys gave me a "safe" ride around the projects. Man does socialism suck. Horrible place, Unbelievable. And the traffic was nerve racking but not as bad as NJ traffic. I"m glad to be back home in the woods. Some very large balck man who said he was a retired NFL football player who was security guard always walked me to and from my car. I think he knew I was scared and nieve or not street wise.

Kim I am glad you got to enjoy all of South Florida's special little charms. Now you know why all the retirees and tourists flock here.

I have lived in S. FLorida for over five years. Having said that, my fiance is 6 months pregnant and I have zero intention of remaining here after my son is born.

The cost of living to Income ratio is a joke, home prices are ridiculous even laughable considering the wage. Simply out the working class cannot afford to live here, and in a few short years there will be no working class here.

The traffic even in small towns is horrendous due to retirees with nowhere to go that insist on being out at rush hour.

Most people are rude as hell, especially the snowbirds that act like we natives should <worship them> for being here.

There only 3 plusses about living in florida: the beaches are amazing, we are gun friendly, and the weather. All of these things are available in any number of places throughout the south with none of the disadvantages.

Please research if you want to raise a child here......that thought scares me. Especially the schools

Best
Bill

How about this gem directly from the Brady web-site,

"Individuals who are unfamiliar with Florida's roads, traffic regulations and customs, or who speak foreign languages, or look different than Florida residents, may face a higher risk of danger - because they may be more likely to be perceived as threatening by Floridians, and because they are unaware of Florida's new law that says individual who feel their safety is threatened or their possessions are at risk are legally authorized to use deadly force."

It seems as though the Brady's believe that Floridians are also racist crazies who shoot people who look different and speak other languages.

If a conservative put something like this on their website you can darn well bet the ACLU and the NAACP would be pooping a cow.

They probably just drove around. Maybe went to Wal-Mart. That should do it! ;)
