Glock has recently announced the following changes to their product line:

OD Guns will no longer be a part of the production line

RTF2 guns will only be available for law Enforcement purchases once GLOCK, Inc. inventory is depleted.

Commercial pistols will only be available with fixed sights except the 34/35 which will be shipped with ADJ sights only

Might be a good time to get what you want before they are no more - email for availability"
...

Supposedly Glock claims the life of the colored frames to be less than black. This is just hearsay, I can't confirm it.

What's an RFT2 gun???
I think RTF2 was the model with the very spiky texture and the crescent-shaped gripper cuts on the slide.

I saw what appeared to be dealers pushing out OD Glocks at a steep discount this spring. They must have not caught on with the public. While there's no doubt black polymers are the most UV stable I would think it's more a marketing decision to get out of the OD business.

Freak'n smarty pants! ;)

This change doesn't bother me. I think the green ones are ugly and the rtf2 is a little too rough, though I do like the crescent slide serrations. I wish they would have started to put those on all guns.

I'm almost certain this change in production is due to a lack of civilian sales with these models. It's just pure economics, can't blame them.

Dang. I entered this thread thinking that maybe Glock announced that they were going to make a pistol with a decent grip for the first time in their history.

I doubt the OD guns are any less durable. I'm guessing they just weren't selling. The fact that a frame with a different color is less durable to me is just silly. I have an OD Glock 19 and love it! As far as the other changes go I could care less.

Actually, color can in fact reduce the longevity of polymer. Different colors and chemical components to make that certain color can affect how a plastic or polymer handles such elements as UV protection.

I worked several years in rapid prototyping and we absolutely saw different color plastics/polymers handling tests differently.

My whole fleet is slowly turning OD Green and FDE... Especially in the AR world, Tan is the new "Black" I think this is a horrible time for Glock to drop the OD lineup. This is just the begining of the tan/brown/fde/od craze IMO. I own a OD Glock 19, 23 and 35. Every polymer gun i acquire now has to be something other than black. Im bored to death of black.

They need to quit making RTF2 all together. Then I'll have a collectors G17 :)

Great for gripping when the gun is wet or your hand is real sweaty...not good at all for carry...feels like sandpaper on your skin and can wear holes in shirts.

I never understood the colored handgun thing anyhow, maybe I'm old fashioned, but if it's not black tuperware it looks like a toy gun. I like it a little more on AR's, but I don't know anyone who has a multi colored glock and I know a lot of guys with glocks including myself. I have had 4, over the years, and the colored gun issue always annoyed me because it gave people like Bloomberg, another thing to add to his arguments about mistakimg fake guns for real ones. He tried to ban them in NY "I don't know what happened with that" but it maybe part of the problem. But they must sell 10 to 1 so as mentioned why bother making them. As far as the rtf's go, I thought that was just till the gen 4's came out anyhow. Night sights are no big deal as we can put those on ourselves or have your local gunsmith do it for a few dollars. I changed one set with a flat punch and a dowel while at work years ago, because I cuoldn't wait to get home. So nothing really significant. Maybe they are gearing up for something new. You can shave a 2x4 down and make a decent jig for a glock slide in a few minutes, then just hit the rear sight with 1 shot and off i comes. The new one just slips on with a tap from a rubber hammer and a punch with a flat head, and a cloth.Or you can buy the glock tool and have it to mess with your pistols and your buddies, front sights just pull off "the plastic ones" and the night sight goes on with a screw and some lock tight. By the way Buds is having a special on OD glocks while they are still around if you have to have one, it's on their Glock page.

It's not saying much, but I always thought Glocks looked best wearing green. I guess it's kind of like saying a musk ox looks better in pumps with red lip stick and a short skirt, but green seemed to be Glock's color.
