I recently purchased a Judge and loaded up some reloads for it. My Remington STS shells worked just fine, but my Cheddite shells didn't even want to rotate in the cylinder without a lot of effort. It was like the base was too thick and rubbing.

Well a close look showed the problem. This is the best photo I could get of the problem. Notice how thin the rim of the green Remington shell is compared to the red Cheddite shell on the right.
That was the problem. I was able to use a resizing die and lightly hammer the lip down enough that the Ceddites work perfectly. I realize that the 2 red Cheddite shells look the same in the photo, but resizing the lip just the tiny bit it to make the shell like the one in the middle eliminated the problem.

I might recommend that Judge owners avoid Cheddite shells.

If you will excuse me, I have 280 more to resize:what:

No,no, no.....not loaded shells. I bought the Ceddite hulls for reloading and I've found that the rim is too thick for a Judge. Must be okay for other shotguns I guess. I'm resizing the hulls PRIOR to loading.

Okay, since I badmouthed Cheddite hulls, I better make this correction. The problem was NOT the Cheddite hulls.....I found a tiny burr on the hammer face (might be the wrong name....the face directly behind the cylinder).

Very tiny, but caused trouble. A tiny file removed it in minutes and now all is good.

Sorry for the misinformation and apologies to the maker of Cheddite hulls.

Metric components are slightly different in dimensions than US standards. So something like a burr will make a difference for you. The real question is did you figure this out BEFORE or after you attempted to resize the rims? Enquiring minds and all that.;)

The S&W Governor is also made for "pistol" 410 ammo. You may have some occasional binding, if inexpensive
rifle rounds are used, the rim is just a little too thick, sometimes.
