I recently purchased a Judge and loaded up some reloads for it. My Remington STS shells worked just fine, but my Cheddite shells didn't even want to rotate in the cylinder without a lot of effort. It was like the base was too thick and rubbing.
Well a close look showed the problem. This is the best photo I could get of the problem. Notice how thin the rim of the green Remington shell is compared to the red Cheddite shell on the right.
That was the problem. I was able to use a resizing die and lightly hammer the lip down enough that the Ceddites work perfectly. I realize that the 2 red Cheddite shells look the same in the photo, but resizing the lip just the tiny bit it to make the shell like the one in the middle eliminated the problem.
I might recommend that Judge owners avoid Cheddite shells.
If you will excuse me, I have 280 more to resize
