Saw this when I went on Bud's Gun Shop website:

"Our distributor network is currently prohibiting us from cancelling or updating shipments. As a result, we are unable to cancel/modify orders after they have been placed."

So does this mean that a lot of order cancellations are happening or are expected, or something else?

No, it means Bud's is getting tired of dealing with wishy washy customers that cancel an order or change their mind after they hit submit. It's a common problem for online retailers.

Once, I ordered the wrong projectiles from Midway and within a short window of 4 or 5 hours was able to cancel the order and place a corrected order simply and without issue. Mistakes happen, so not being able to cancel an order easily is not a good business practice, IMO.

Shrug. Who knows. The "distributor network" as I have used it is pretty junky, so it could have a bug they are working on.

Could be that the distributor they use has lots of stay-homes or has explicitly tried to get as many people away from the office as possible. The vast majority of businesses do not do anything but simple sales automatically, and require a person to do (or approve, etc) returns, exchanges, cancels, etc. so with any reduced staffing you just don't get those done. Seen others simply not process returns for over 2 months at the holidays, for example.

Maybe a large number of people who ordered firearms realized that the background check system is seriously backed up and didn't want to wait the week or so for shipping, plus another week or longer for the background checks and decided it was too much trouble?

“Maybe he was an early riser; maybe he didn’t have any friends. I’m an educated man but I’m afraid I cannot speak intelligently to the travel habits of Private Santiago.” I just simply have no idea why Bud’s is taking this position, probably a business decision having to do with money.
