heres an email I got telling me I never gave my midway usa account a password (I did.) Then there a link that it says doesn't direct me to midaway but to a place I just ned to enetr my password. This seems very sketchy to me and It looks like a scam to get access to my account, so I haven't clicked the links. Any info on this? the first link also contains a .exe entension making me think that clicking this link will run an executable program.

If you are unable to click the link(s) in this email:
Please copy and paste (highlight it and right-click) the address into your Web
Browser's address bar and then press enter.

Call Midway directly and ask them if they have a "Stacey" or a "Morgan" on the payroll. If either one of these names are confirmed, make sure you find out what it is the do for Midway. Chances are they may want to know why you are inquiring, This will either confirm your suspicions or give you the pulpit the give them your opinion on the whole matter.

I believe you are right to be suspicious. I get a similar email from ebay from time to time and reported it to them. It is a confirmed scam. A call should straighten it out.

Pdow, if your name is Mike, that link has your personal info on it, I sould suggest you alter the link, so it doesn't work.
As to concern if it is a fake, just call Midway and ask them. They'll tell you if they are sending you anything.
Never ever click on links within unsolicited emails, and never fill out the forms found within.

Mike, take that link down immediately! It contains your real name and address.

Edit: hankpac's advice is good.

Well the url is midwayusa.com. Nothing wrong with that. Most scams would use something like midwayusa.notthewebsite.com/account/blablalblablablabla.htm

Just type midways website into your browser and log in from there. Don't use the email. If they still ask you for the stuff then it isn't a scam.

Phishy is right! Contact MidwayUSA so that they can post an ALERT at their website if it is Phishy!!

I received an email of similar effect a month or two ago. Truth be told I hadn't set a password as I had been ordering over the phone. Wish I hadn't deleted it so we could compare the two. I don't remember mine being lengthy like that.

Also, mine didn't have any links as to where to go, and certainly didn't have any .exe attachments.

Later,
Chrome...

BTW, as far as I can tell, that link is 100% on the up and up.

Typically https:// address can be trusted a bit more. Still, it's best to give them a call and find out for sure.

You should go check your PM.

The .exe means it is running a executable on their site, the link goes to midwayusa and the certificate is valid. Almost all of midwayusa.com emails come from Stacey & Morgan.

I order A LOT from them...I haven't received one of those. :uhoh: Makes ya ta wonder, donzit?

The link you posted is a legitimate url to midwayusa.com. However, it is possible that the link in your ACTUAL email LOOKS like midwayusa.com, but the url iteslf goes to somewhere else. Since you copied and pasted the TEXT of your email note, and then THR turned the text into a link, we can only see what the link looks like.

He is an example of what could be in your email
http://www.midwayusa.com

Now, the link text contains an user ID which seems to suggest it is legit.

PS. the .exe in that url is just the name of the program that the server is using to generate the web pages from, not a red flag in and of itself

The easiest way to tell is to go to their site, go to your account and try to log in with your password and see if it works. If it doesn't, tell it you forgot your password and see if it sends it to you. That should probably tell you whether you have a password or not.

sounds fishy to me, never answer personal questions in emails unless your sending by secure email server to a person you know personally. Then I'd still be wary of what info you send.

Never, never click on anything in an unsolicited e-mail of that type. Go to the Midway site by normal means and see what's up with your account, if anything.

For what it's worth, I just now attempted to create an online Midway account without specifying a password. It wouldn't let me do it. It wants a password. If you have an online account you have a password.

Email scamming is at an all time high right now. About an hour ago my wife got an email which looked like it came from PayPal telling her that she had just paid $219.95 for a video camera and providing a box she could click on to dispute it. The idea being when you click on the box it will ask for account name and password. It is amazing as to how many people who will fall for this. We forwarded the email to PayPal.

I would have deleted this email without hesitation. This kind of scam is, indeed, prevalent.

I'd forward it to midway. If it's a Phishing scam, then they need to know about it. If it's not, then it looks like a phishing scam and they really should know that, too.

exe link = bogus

That is not necessarily true. Go to http://www.midwayusa.com/. Click on either View cart, Delivery Info, Wishlist or any of the categories. Look at the address, they say have exe links. Midway's site runs on a Windows server, it's not uncommon at all to have .exe extensions in the addresses.

While it's good to be wary and other people have given sound advice about going to the site directly, this time it appears to have actually originated from Midway USA. But, it's probably better to be safe than sorry.

Call Midway directly and ask them if they have a "Stacey" or a "Morgan" on the payroll.

I just checked my previous registration and orders from Midway. Each one is from "Stacey & Morgan".

I've just created another account with no password. Let's see if I get an email asking me to set one.

Fraud/Phishing sites will accept anything for username/password. You could try something made up and it'll probably give you a bogus confirmation of something...just another way to check
