I am going to try and keep these matches going but I need everyones help. PLEASE go out and shoot this match and post your scores! Tell your friends, spread the word. Unless I see that there are people who actually want these to continue I won't waste my time on them. (Someone else may want to do it.) ;)

For those who may not be familiar with the general rules of the matches please see the rules FAQ .

=============================
NOTE: This months match is a "ROTR greatest hits" match from last May . It was a lot of fun so I thought it was worth putting it out there again. (with some minor changes).

=============================
Celebrity Poker Shootout

Bring your favorite firearm to the poker table target and take aim.

Download the PDF target here

10 Paces(yards) for hangun, 25 for rifle . Standing, one hand or two with no artificial means of support, shoot FIVE SHOTS at the set of 12 cards on this month's target - the 3 through Ace of Clubs.

Scoring:

Straight Flush = 100 Points
5 Of a Kind = 95 Points
4 of a Kind = 90 Points
Full House = 85 Points
Flush = 80 Points
Straight = N/A
3 of a kind = 70 Points
2 Pair = 65 Points
Pair = 60 Points
Unmatched cards = Add up the card value (3-11 points per card)

Unless they are all unmatched, extra cards do not count (i.e. - you can't get 4 of a kind and an Ace for 101 points).

Better hands (i.e. a Royal Flush or 5 Aces) serve as tie-breakers.

You will notice that the cards overlap. Also, some big bore pistols may cut across more than one card. I will make it shooter's choice to pick your 5 best cards to make up for last month's difficult target.

PISTOL STOCK CLASS - Standard pistols with barrels 6" or less
PISTOL IMPROVED - Pistols with significant improvements from out-of-the-box or pistols with barrels more than 6".
PISTOL SCOPED - Any scoped pistol
RIFLE STOCK CLASS - Any standard rifle w/o major improvements
RIFLE SCOPED - Any scoped rifle

AIRGUN PISTOL
AIRGUN RIFLE

3 entries per shooter in up to 3 classes allowed this month. (i.e. you can shoot up to 9 targets).

Be sure to post your final scores with:

Firearm/Caliber___________
Distance_______________
Hand/Score____________
Posting scans of your target is appreciated but not required. A narative description of your strategy and execution is also appreciated but not required.

==================
RULE CLARIFICATIONS:
a)Only the visable portion of the card counts on this target. You can not count a card that appears to have a portion behind another card. [Consider this a special "hard" deck of cards made from Kevlar.]i.e. a direct hit on the #3 only counts as a 3 and can not count as hitting the 6 that is behind it. If, on the other hand, the shot breaks the edge of the card and touches the 3 and the 6 it will be your choice which card counts for scoring.

b) A FLUSH will be allowed using two of the same card (which is not possible in real life.) However, in the case of a tie a flush with 5 different cards will take priority.

Nov/Dec THR Match

My shooting buddy John(aka Barbarian) and I always enjoyed the THR matches. It gave us something to shoot for bragging rights. Glad to see the matches back.
But.....it's getting darn cold here in Iowa!!! May have to shoot this one at 10 paces with my air pistol.....when my wifes not home of course.
Hope we get a lot of shooters.
Bill L.

Glad to have you with us Bill L. (and Barbarian). I'll expect to see you guys posting scores in this match.

If you do use an airgun I'll have to put you in a seperate category but perhaps others will do the same. Maybe we need an airgun category during the winter?

My best Kreskin is that the absolute lowest score in this match will be 80 points.

(Flush=80 points, all cards on target are same suit, automatic 80 points.)

Snake eyes, That is true if you discount the possibility of a miss.

Also note that I have added some rule clarifications above. These were based on some of the issues that came up when this target was posted last year.

<<<<<If you do use an airgun I'll have to put you in a seperate category but perhaps others will do the same. Maybe we need an airgun category during the winter?>>>>

Great idea. That would give me one more category to shoot in. It's got my vote.

Bob

Ok, sure, why not? This match will include airgun categories for each of the standard classes. Distances will be the same. [I want to see the set-up if someone tries to shoot 25yrds inside their house! :D ]

Now, what shall we call these new airgun classes? Pehaps "Wimpy Yankee Class"? [We can have a similar type name for the class in August for those of us broiling in the southern states].
Or, how about "Blue State Special" :rolleyes:

NOV/DEC THR Match

Photoguy,
I was just going to shoot the air pistol in the handgun class.....most airgun shooting is at 10 paces (33 ft). May need a separate class for air rifle only....
hopefully saving you some more work. :D
Bill L.

AIRGUN

Bill L, I might go with that for this match. In general it isn't really fair for someone shooting a handgun to compete against someone shooting a rifle at the same range. I would think that would still hold with airguns.

Sligshot class anyone? :D

I think I go with my trusty Walther C99. :) You get a competitor, buddy.

Guess I'll be the first to post my score

21!!! AQ, I dunnho what happened? The whole time I was thinking man those cards look pretty big, ten yards is kinda close isn't it? I'm going to have to try some other guns on this, it's a fun target :) . Forgot the worst part, the new shooter I brought only scored a point lower than me, 20 JQ.

tougher than it looks

chickenfried, yes this target is more difficult than it appears. Glad you could give it a try.

Be sure to post the details (class, etc.) for your self and your new shooter for scoring purposes. Give you new shooter an online name and we can count them in the final tally as well.

This looks like fun!

Guys, I just happened to run across this thread today. Sorry for not looking here before. I like this concept and will be participating. What a great excuse for getting everything out of the closet and putting some lead downrange.

Got relatives coming over today, so it may be the weekend before I can post some scores and get humbled! ;)

Thanks, Photo Guy, for keeping this alive. Wish I had found this earlier.

NoBite - glad you found it. Better late than never.

This is a Nov/Dec match so you have until the end of the year to get out and "get humbled".... Wait....on second thought, forget I said that. Go out and shoot the match ASAP! I wouldn't want you to put this off until the last minute - there is enough of that going on this time of year.

Well my favorite gun to shoot now is my MK II and my favorite target is this little orange bullseye that's about an inch or half an inch wide. At ten yards I can usually put most of the shots in the bullseye. So I was really confident that I'd do well when I saw how big the cards were. My strategy going in was just to shoot from the A to the 10. I ended up aiming at the clovers, but maybe I should've aimed at the middle of the card. I wasn't planning on aiming at the clovers, when I was aiming it just happened. Imagine my surprise when I brought my target back and saw only two hits with three misses :what:

This is going to be fun!

If I read the rule right, we can enter up to three classes and up to three different guns in each class. :)

So, in the Pistol Stock Class, I think I'll enter a S&W 586 w/6" barrel, an XD-9 and my Kimber Classic .45. In the pistol scoped, it'll be my Ruger Mark II with red dot. And, in Rifle Scoped, the 10/22.

It's been awhile since I've shot a couple of those, so I'm interested as to what happens. Could be pretty humbling, but wouldn't be the first time and that's half the challenge. If I get my dig cam out, I'll post pictures as well.

Hoping for a sunny day! :cool:

Yes, that is correct. Part of the goal is to give people an excuse to get out and shoot some of those guns that haven't gotten out in a while.

I only had a few minutes today, so I shot the pistol stock class out back. I'll edit to add my other guns/classes when I get a chance to shoot them.

I thought I had a pair for 60, but reread the scoring and I guess this counts as a flush, even though I hit the 10 twice. :scrutiny:

I guess we can call it a Snake Eyes since he pointed out the likelihood of multiple 80's.

Welcome to the match Red Tornado.
The scoring for that will be a flush for this match. You have until the end of December so you'll have some time to get some other entries in.

Enjoy!
