We all know the crazy ridiculousness that is the metallic cartridge gun and ammo market now. 22s for $0.40 a shot, 9mm four to five times as expensive as it once was.

Well now is the time for black powders guys. Absolutely no issue finding components and the prices haven’t budged a bit. Still the same as pre COVID. Here’s a fine Kentucky rifle:

From an economics standpoint, one shot of a .45 Kentucky rifle cost about $0.35. This is half the going rate for a 9mm cartridge these days! And no surprise here the Kentucky rifle takes much longer to reload. A full day on the line can be shot for just a few dollars with a black powder. One can spend hours relaxing at the range and not drain the bank! In terms of time at the range vs money spent, it is EXPONENTIALLY cheaper!

Add the fun challenge, the smoke n’ fire, the BOOM, the smell of the gunpowder, and it’s incredibly fun too! You can get into the weeds and learn all about the history as well.

If anyone here is on the fence about black powder, NOW IS THE TIME TO EXPERIENCE THEM.

We'll talk pm troy and not derail this thread more than I already have.?..apologies @JCooperfan1911.

The bp world of shooting has much to offer, especially in the times we are in now. I csn attend a full sanctioned nmlra shoot and have a ball all afternoon shooting 4 or 5 matches, and only fire maybe 25 shots. I will feel great satisfaction with an afternoon of only 20-30 shots. I just don't get that with modern guns. I need hundreds for the same satisfaction.
Maybe its just me?

There is a place for both BP weapons and modern firearms; I would love to own a classic, very well made Hawkin in .50 or .54 but I have yet to locate my kind of quality - hard item to find these days. In turn, I would not like to enter a foreign or domestic battle with a BP rifle these days - there is a place and need for both.

For a very good Hawken reproduction, take a look at the Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken. Probably the best production gun out there unless you go custom.

Fyrstyk, I would love to purchase/ own a very well made custom Hawkin - can you point me in the right direction?

There's a lot of custom Hawken builders, one being WB Selb.
Although the reports are that he can take up to 36 months to complete a rifle depending on his back log.
