On Fox about an hour or so ago they reported that the Sec. Ridge has said that on a scale of 1-10 our chances of a major attack is 8.
It sounds like there is a decent chance of something big, or a coordinated set of big attacks, soon. Nuclear, dirty bomb, chemical, biological, attack on infrastructure (electricity substations, electricity generation, nuclear plants, major bridges, major dams, etc.) are all possibilities.
Be ready. We should be prepared for something all the time anyway. The chances of a riot, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, blizzard, etc. are always there. Our preparations for one possibility where services are temporarily knocked out will help us for the other possibilities too.
Minimum preparations:
-Food. Canned foods that need little or no preparation are good. Get stuff you are willing to eat day to day too since you need to rotate your stocks every few months or so.
-Water. Drink from those 1liter bottles for a few days and see how many you drink to get an idea of how much you need to put aside to have a stash of water good for 2-3 weeks.
-Candles, lots of them. An old coffee can with sand in the bottom (with a candle in it this will provide some heat). Candles are also good for light too
. You'll also need a lot of waterproof matches and/or several cigarette lighters.
-A battery powered radio (shortwave is useful), battery powered lanterns and flashlights, tons of batteries.
-Extra seasonally appropriate clothing in a bag ready to go should you need to leave.
-Extra blankets.
-A good first aid kit.
-Don't forget you may need something to do and you may not be able to access your video games, TVs and computers. Card games, board games, jig saw puzzles, books, books of word games or word puzzles, etc. will be very helpful.
-I am being sure all my guns are clean and I have plenty of ammo for each of them. Yeah, I know I won't get a chance to shoot any terrorists, but you've seen what people can do if order breaks down for a while. I want to be ready if people start rioting, looting or worse.
If you live in a CCW state get a CCW gun, train and get a license. If you don't live in a CCW state think about whether you are willing to risk the potential legal risks. I would be very surprised if we didn't see the kind of suicide bombings and shootings that you see in Israel all the time. How many times do you hear about someone over there putting a stop to an attack with a personally owned and carried gun?
So you shouldn't be doing anything you shouldn't have already been doing.
