We've discussed this before and it seems most members support an "I'm the NRA" type ad. Why doesn't the NRA do it? We (NRA members) get portrayed by the media as some radical right wing extremist group that buys politicians so why don't we show America who we really are? Public opinion is a powerful thing and changing perceptions would not be a waste of funds.

That's a good idea. I like their last one showing the women shooting AR's and parents playing with their kids and saying this is America.

I never saw it. Was it only played on Outdoor Network or Sportsman's Channel? I'm talking about putting it on some of the main networks if possible.

Sure they do but that's not the topic of this thread.

I can remember the "I'm The NRA" series of print and TV ads that they put out several years ago - something like that would be good.

I feel as though there is a factor that went into the overwhellming support we were able to garner.

Shows like American Guns, Sons of Guns, Top Shot and to a lesser extent Yukon Men, Mountain Men, Swamp People, etc... show that guns are mainstream.

We all know that everyone on THR is better than the American public and all of these TV shows are stupid and just full of drama but they are on Cable TV, appeal to a larger group of Americans and I have been saying all along that when it comes time to fight we will have people on our side who would have never considered voting against gun control.

The NRA should be more public, but we the gun owning citizens need to put our petty feelings aside and welcome the gun and shooting related TV shows that are hitting a large audience.

I think you missed the point of my post

I think you were referencing Bloomberg but could be wrong. We all are aware of the one sided reporting of the media so I don't expect them to call any attention to him influencing politicians with his wallet.

I would like people to know that we're just average people that go about our daily lives just like everyone else. I would like some of those dollars the NRA receives go to improve public opinion.

Indeed. The Well Armed Woman group on Facebook ran a series of photos with the caption "The REAL face of the American gun owner". The NRA should do something similar to that.

I saw a really good 30-60 second commercial on the NRA's website a month or so ago that was the face of America. I'm trying to find it, if I do I'll post a link.

They might want to consider getting the subject in focus next time..

Yes, this is also part of the problem with being out of touch with the public.

One problem is many of the major networks will not sell time to the NRA. Those places that do sell to the NRA tend not to have the demographics we want to reach.

This is a big concern and one of the reasons why the NRA should try to get more involved with the general population. The Second Amendment is the right of ALL Americans and not just for those of us who already own firearms.

Bart, that is why I am such an advocate of the shooting/gun related shows on the Discovery and History channels. Gun types hate them, but "regular" people like them and that is good for us. The NRA should advertise/sponsor shows like Sons of Guns and Top Shot....

I think of the question, "Who's a member of the NRA"? in the same way I think of the question, "Who rides a Harley?" or, "Who buys gold?"

The answer: Your broker. Your dentist. Your plumber. Your attorney. Your neighbor. Your letter carrier. Your garbage collector. Members of your union. Your yoga instructor. The attractive young receptionist in your office. The gramma-type lady in your neighborhood that makes Christmas cookies for the whole block. The couple on the next church pew. And so on...

But anti's want to believe that the NRA is made up exclusively of whack-job, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, wife-beater and tin-foil hat-wearing, hunter/prepper type white guys who can't string four words together. And the media are happy to help.

I think the NRA needs to do a much better job answering the "common sense", 90% support, infringement on Dr/Patient privacy and things like this.

The majority of Americans, due to the leftist media, only hear one, dishonest perspective.

The NRA running ads aimed at us is a waste, they need to appeal to many more Americans and they can win by simply publicly proving what the truth is.
