NRA Convention out of Columbus

I like that, Jason. The NRA should offer to come here to Boston...! The hysteria would be hysterical!

jason10mm,
If the NRA can swing a 15 million dollar economic package to any town is has a national meeting in, then I think they should target liberal towns to see if the city politicos will change their gun laws just to "keep" the NRA coming.

One wonders if this is precisely what the NRA was trying to do with Columbus. It's no secret that it's an "anti" town and, as several council members pointed out, they've been working on this AWB for several years. The idea of 15-million-plus coming into town in 4 days must not have been enough sugar for the city gov't to swallow its pride and stop harassing its citizens for a while.

If this is the case, I'm glad it didn't work. Pushing for preemption laws in Ohio would be far more constructive than defeating yet another Columbus AWB (there's been 3 so far, I think).

On MSNBC, Keith Obermann made fun of Wayne as the 2nd worst person of the week and thought Columbus was correct to keep the ban and ditch the NRA. I'm afraid, this action will not influence antigun folks but really reinforce them.

There is no reason for the NRA to go to areas that are not explicitly progun.

Please! People of high principle would never sell out to the evil, right-wing, fascist, racist, KKK-owned, Hitlerite, Nazi, insane, religious right NRA! Never. Unless the money was big enough.

I forget which "liberal" Democrat said it, but I think the comment that, "Anyone who voted for George W. Bush should be taken out and shot" says everything we need to know about people who claim to be for peace, love and brotherhood.

Jim

If the NRA would select another Ohio city that doesn't have it's head up it's hind end they could thump Columbus and get it's message out.

This bummed me out, being as I live about 45 minutes from Columbus, however, I understand the move completely.

I'm also infuriated by some of the anti's writing I've read about how great it is that they aren't going to have it there. This upsets me more than anything.

its kinda funny, that shot in the arm $$ for columbus just went bye bye.Imagine what those extra $$ could do..

I guess somebody will be eating crow for awhile there.

So - How About Vegas? Shall-Issue State.

They haven't asked me, but I'd vote for Las Vegas. Great convention city.
Shall-Issue State. Lots of fun. Cheap air fares. Lots of supportive folks.

nashville would be nice. louisville or lexington wouldn't be too far for a lot of the ohio/penn/mich folks

Um, someone should tell this Keith Obermann that Columbus didn't ditch the NRA, the NRA ditched Columbus. :banghead: What a moron.

So this action will reinforce anti-gun folks? All 17 of them?
Has no one noticed that in the last several elections, pro-gunners WALLOPED anti-gunners? What's the membership roll of HCI (the Brady Bastards) up to these days? How many paid members?

I don't care what anti-gunners think of the NRA's course. There was no reason to patronize an anti-gun city, period. Even IF the NRA calculated this move deliberately so that they could end up making a big point of cancelling, I support that too. It's a GOOD thing when anti-gunners are made to look bad.
I haven't seen the speech by Wayne LaPierre, but I hope he challenged the city fathers of Columbus to prove that their "assault weapons ban" makes anyone safer. We all know they claim it; but where is the proof?
(We all know that there is none.)

Look at all the free publicity that the NRA has received, touting its ability to bring FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLARS INTO A LOCAL ECONOMY IN JUST THREE DAYS!!

You can't buy publicity that good. And this story does show the public what kind of sway the NRA holds. And anyone in the audience who has his thinking cap on is going to wonder to himself why a group should be criticized for witholding support from anyone who opposes its mission!

You're kidding, right?

A city government stupid enough to enact a local assault weapons ban, and you give them credit for not being likely to piss away $15,000,000 on some :cuss: scheme or other?

How about $10,000,000 for a gun "buy-back," and another $5,000,000 for "sensitivity training" for the cops?

Yeah, the people of Columbus ever would've seen that money put to good use...

Maybe Columbus can replace all those eeeevil NRA $$$$ with $ from a Brady Bunch/Million Misguided Mommy March convention. . .

That should read "Maybe Columbus can replace all those eeeevil NRA $$$$ with $ from a Brady Bunch/Million Misguided Mommy March convention. . ."

No they can't replace that money. They also don't care about the impact of their decision or the people they represent. Remember, one of the main purposes of politicians is to get their name in the news. Good or bad, people will remember them, and vote them back into office. These cirtters want the average citizen to become more and more dependant on government and the handouts.

Oh I long for a time when it was up to each person to.......

Politicians and money

Yes they always find ways to spend money. But remember they are letting you keep some of what you earn. Just like most parisites, which just make the host sick but not kill the host. Many politicians take as much money as they can from the people just not enough to cause a rebellion. They learned that lesson from Prop. 13 in California.

Sent them some comments, too.

Mine is that since Columbus doesn't want the NRA and all that money, they don't need the $500 or so that Mrs. Foggy and I spend evey year at the Ohio State Fair and hotel. We usually drive to Columbus early Saturday morning, spend all day at the fair, then get a nice hotel room and dinner out.

The anti-gunners are telling the truth when they say public safety is not for sale. Look at the Great Western Show when it used to be in Los Angeles at the Fairplex. The Fairplex lost several million dollars a year from that. Then the Fairplex sued the county claiming they drove off their business, so the county agreed to make up the difference. That is right, the county paid the Fairplex a few million dollars in order to cancel the gun show. Afterall, it isn't their money. And the people of these districts are stupid enough to keep voting for these people.

Yes the anti's are trying their hardest to make this look good, but if I were a vendor in downtown Columbus, I sure as heck would be mad as hell that my representatives not only voted to violate my rights, but made me lose money for it to boot.

and you know why the media and antis are ranting so much now? cause their stupidity embarrassed them. :D :D
