I am in the process of getting my NRA Instructor certification and one of the instructors mentioned that Smith and Wesson among some other gun makers provide significant discounts on firearms that you plan on using for instructional purposes. Any truth to this or additional info?

Thanks!

I was told by a S&W rep at the SHOT show this year that S&W discontinued it's instructor purchase program. I haven't called S&W to verify this.

There are many NRA instructor discounts offered by manufacturers and sometimes retailers. I know that Kahr has (or had, haven't checked lately) and instructor purchase program. Same goes for Ruger and, I think, Berretta.

When you get your NRA credentials, make some copies. Do some on-line research to find the main business number for the various companies. Call the main number and ask who would be the contact for any "instructor puchase" program they might have. Often it's someone in marketing. When you get the right person, ask for info on the program or find out if you need to send your creds in to get the info.

Don't forget to keep good tax records. If you are running a business as an instructor (and not a hobby) most of your purchases in this area are tax deductable.

I believe Crimson Trace offers a discount to NRA instructors. The Kahr discount is pretty large - once my paperwork comes back I'll be ordering 2 for classroom use. And personal use.
